Fading & Scratching Exterior Black Gloss Trim

Read on another forum but and judging by the number of posts of people complaining

i'm surprised it's not come up here as an issue...

Anyone experiencing hazing scratching or fading on the back plastic trim.....mainly the pillars I think

I'm assuming most here don't subject their cars to automatic car washes...which would be a factor..

If it is a problem...I'm looking at possible protection for when my cars delivered...

I'm looking at opti coat2 as a possibility .. C Quarz... or even 3M clear bra.....

So how are your's holding up... 2014.5 SDV6 AB Dynamic ... Fuji /Santorini Pan roof and 22's

Pillars are very soft and get scratched easily, apart from that I haven't had any issues. Arrived: MY16 A/B SDV6 in Aruba, Ivory interior, piano black trim, black panoramic roof, spare wheel, blind spot monitoring, mudlaps and more... Twisted Evil

My door pillars marked up quite badly and looked like the clear coat was peeling off. Had new ones fitted under warranty. Also had all the door window rubbers seen to at the same time becuse they had faded too. There is a TSB out for the window rubbers. Might be worth getting intouch with your dealer.

the black gloss trim seems to scratch very easily. Worse still is the grand piano black trim that I paid extra for. In the front center console bit where you pull out the cover for the two cup holders the black finish has scratched horribly and most annoying is that it is not because it has had keys on it - what causes the scratches is when it gets rolled back into the center console if you see what I mean - all the scratches are straight and you can see it happening as it goes in to the dash.

Still love the car but pretty unimpressed with this element of the finish 2010 997 Carrera S

Thanks for that information about the piano black, sounds like there's something poorly finished inside which is scratching the surface, like a nylon brush or felt seal. I've decided not to have piano black as a result.

My Evoque has a fair amount of easily scratched black plastic too and, nearly 3 years in, the slatted centre console cover looks quite bad but it is cheap to replace.

One other aspect of durability which worries me are those brushed rails either side of the centre console. The equivalents on my Evoque have an embossed texture which shrugs off the impact of keys or seat belt buckles but others with brushed finishes complain of dents and scratches. What's the experience on the RRS? Mark

My detailer machine polished out the scratches on my car. They will come back no matter how carefully you wash the car.

Clearly, using automated or volume hand cars washing establishments is going to add scratches and swirls at a much greater pace than if you use the washing methods prescribed by good quality detailing companies. Current:

I am talking about the black plastic trim. It can be polished by someone who knows what they are doing. Current:

The Piano Black trim is scratched very easily. But overall I like it and it goes nicely with Ivory interior. Arrived: MY16 A/B SDV6 in Aruba, Ivory interior, piano black trim, black panoramic roof, spare wheel, blind spot monitoring, mudlaps and more... Twisted Evil

Hey Adam...

Black GT3 seems to think so in an earlier post..... i'm not so sure....

I would try something really mild on a spot that you can't see.....

Autoglym resin polish perhaps... has fillers as well and is a very gentle cut and polish...

Have a look on detailingworld as well.....

......

just found this, article .... scratch X ..meguiars swirl remover.... and someone else used Brasso...

If it happens to mine I will try them all...in that order .. Autoglym first..
