United Kingdom 2013 Range Rover Sport 3.0 TDV6 Autobiography Stornoway Grey
Low res display unacceptable - with a few other issues

After spend in over 85k on my RRS autobiography, it still annoys me that I am looking at a low res display.
In an age where retina and HD displays are the norm , why did Land Rover decide to use a LCD display resolution from over 10 years ago?

The menu system is laggy and farcical , with no real thought on layout or logic

Also, why do I have to what 5 seconds after I press the button for the split screen function to operate???

Why did they decide to put the heated seats controls , into the menu system? Why do I have to wait for the land lover screen to clear to operate my heated seats ???

Why did they not use rocker switches with led lights to directly activate them ??

Any other thoughts?

I guess you knew all that before you ordered?

If it was so important then maybe it might have been worth waiting for the upgraded system to be available?

There is the catch! You just bought an overpriced TATA with LR badges!

Sorry for you.. SW

Actually , apart from the LCD technology the car is fantastic !

As for "did you not know that when you ordered it" I ordered the car before I knew what it even looked like !

Waited a year before I got it end of Jan..

However as a 2014 model it is disappointing that they opted for such a low res main display.

I do agree. There's a huge difference between the TFT display used for the instrument panel and that used for the infotainment and SatNav system. No one is expecting LR to develop their own technology - they simply buy it in from a supplier - but I do not understand why they don't specify a better quality. The cost would be relatively small. I would be surprised if the 2015 MY will change anything, in spite of those "in the know" here suggesting otherwise.

As for putting so many functions into the menu system, it's another example of the car being over-designed. An obsession with minimalism which is actually more difficult to use. I feel certain a driver is more distracted delving into the menu system to switch on the heated seats than they would be with a dedicated switch.

Look in a Porsche Macan/Cayenne and there are, IMHO, too many buttons in the centre console and a bunch of them overhesd but I think the RRS goes too far in the minimalist direction. Mark

The Infotainment screens in my car are fine IMO. Arrived: MY16 A/B SDV6 in Aruba, Ivory interior, piano black trim, black panoramic roof, spare wheel, blind spot monitoring, mudlaps and more... Twisted Evil

It would be an improvement if the TFT display allowed for more user confuguration.

I would like to be able to increase the font size of the digital speedo.
