How long dose it take to have a cup of tea?

Come on Wisnae'Me!!

right then well when I started out I said to Allan (my better half) mind now we are not in the market to buy anything.

The X5, ML320 and the RRS I would class them altogether. To be 100% honest I think it would be very difficult to seperate them out while the interior of the ML320 is very nice and the seats are just to die for but who can argue with the design of the exterior and interior of the RRS but then you have the diesel engine of the X5 which none of them matched for performance or sound.

How can anyone choose between these cars is beyond me I think it all boils down to personal choice and what best suit your needs for something with offroad capabilties then it would have to be RRS but the 7 speed auto in the ML is very smooth yet you still have the finish in the BMW while maybe dated you can't argue with finish and quality.

Having said all that the one that surprised the pants off me was the D3 now I know your not going to like this but I tell you this I liked that car

the interior space is just so much greater than the RRS.

I swear it drove better than the RRS but was it enough for me to forgive it's looks well the school is still out on that one.

Now the Nissan Pathfinder in no uncertain terms did not match the quality of the others but for a 27K car they are not far behind
your getting a lot of car for the money if only they could use better plastic and leather.

However SatNav in the Nissan and the rear view camera beat all the others hands down.

So if I was going to buy a new motor which I am not yet going to do it would possibly have been the D3 Shocked yes it shocked me to.

If it's ok with your guys I would still like to hang round the forum until I decide which motor will replace the X'er next year.

Perhaps you can help convince me in that time to get the RRS

No I'm not surprised at all that you liked the D3 best Laughing

X5 I agree completely with what you are saying. You chose the X5 on its driving ability and I can inderstand why, its performance is miles ahead in pure 0 - 60 times for instance. However it is really a lifted estate car and BMW have never made any pretentions about its off road ability even when launched.

The latest LR products have taken their already well known skills off road to another level. TR works (except for rock crawl) in high or low ratio and is scarily clever at finding grip where cars have no right on road tyres to find it.

What LR have tried to do is to say yeah we are the best off road, but we need to improve on road to really eat into the likes of the X5 market, but it is a compromise. Engines that are designed to work at extreme angles etc are never going to be tuned to a state that say the BMW engines are, although they are getting closer. I suppose it has probably got to a point that a RRS can do 90% of what an X5 does on road, performance wise, but an X5 only does 50% of what it will do off road. Now if you aren't going to drive off road or value that reputation then the X5 is the logical choice.
