Winter tyre sizing on 20" rims

I have 2011 MY RRS with 275/40R20 Continental summer tyres (Luxury / Supercharged style alloys).

The handbook says the approved winter tyres for my rims are 255/50 R20 109H. I would appreciate any comments or experiences of using 275/40R20 vs 255/50R20 winter tyres on my rims.

Thanks. L405 P400e Autobiography (MY2020)... Silicon Silver / Espresso
RRS TDV6 HSE Lux (MY2011)... Nara Bronze / Arabica - now gone!

The handbook is wrong. I had this confirmed by my dealer service manager a couple of years ago. He was disgusted that despite him raising the issue with LR they did nothing to rectify it!! The size for winters on 20 inch wheels is exactly the same as the size for summers. also if you reduce the speed rating you should inform your insurance so as not to fall foul of some of them who will void you policy if you haven't got the same speed rating as were originally fitted to the car. It's a load of tosh but some insurers will look for any reason to wriggle out of a claim. At least if you have informed them they can't! 2013 Discovery HSE Luxury - 3.0 SDV6 - Santorini Black

Lr give a lower speed rating for winter tyres in the handbook so can not see why insurer needs to be notified provided you fit in accordance with handbook - winter tyres have a lower rating anyway so impossible to fit tyres with same rating as summer or all season Confused

Winter tyres should be - 255/50 R19 101H or 275/40 R20 106V

Summer tyres are Y rated Thumbs Up

I would still contact insurer to cover my back even though they haven't got a clue Rolling Eyes Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW
