I have a MY10 RRS and appear to have a knocking noise coming from the front right suspension when driving on an uneven road. Anyone else had this problem on a MY10?

Yes i have, if its an early one (pre Feb/March ish) it wont have mass dampers fitted, lookers put mass dampers on mine and it stopped the knocking......................but i do seem to be getting another knock on the front much like last time Confused It will be due its first service soon so will get it checked.

Are you saying the mass dampers delevoped as a fix and retro fitted to earlier cars was not incorporated into the standard build for later cars?

I had new anti roll bar bushes at the front and it got rid of the knock.

Also had new bushes at the rear when they changed the rear dynamic ARB. This made the rear quiet too. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Just got a reply from dealer, they agreed this might indeed be a warranty repair and will check the car Feb. 7th. Will keep you posted.

one mechanic that inspected my car and recommended changing front ARB bushes, also said they would remove two components that contribute to the noise and actually serve no purpose. in fact Land Rover recommend these are removed. does anyone know what he was referring to. he did tell me but it escapes me now (there were so many problems we discussed with the car, ive forgotten what this was) 07 TDV8 + BAS map

Could be the harmonic damper masses. Also, one of the early "fixes" for suspension noise was to remove a couple of the body - chassis dampers. These are dampers connecting the body to the chassis frame and supposedly act as a path for suspension noise. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

The ARB links connect the ARB to the suspension wishbones. If you remove the links the ARB ceases to function. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

The ARB bushes wear. It's a fact of RRS life. Removing the body-chassis dampers just removes a noise path, it doesn't cure the issue of worn ARBs. The ARBs need to be replaced if there's a knoock coming from single wheel deflections from pot holes. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

yep, the car is in for exactly that, the ARB bushes are being replaced.
i was hoping to also remove these dampers simply so they stop the noise path in case something else is contributing to the knocking other than the arb bushes.

what ive learnt so far is there are a number of root causes that exhibit the same knocking sound. it could be one of them alone or a combination of all. i also know that some cars have gone through the full monty including entire roll bar replaced and still have some knocking noise that cannot be cured and so can only be camouflaged by making it inaudible, for example by cutting off the noise path. just trying to figure out if thats worth doing if the car is in for bushes replacement. it could very well be that its not needed and the new bushes cure the problem in my particular case. 07 TDV8 + BAS map

So.......say I have purchased a RRS on an 07 plate from a main dealer and still have 8 months full warranty on it, will LR carry out this clunking suspension technical bulletin for free?

I think i have this on my vehicle and did mention it to the salesman but he said "that's normal".

I'd like to get it sorted before the warranty runs out. Is this the same as a recall?

Gaz.
