TDV8 Turbo Failure

My ever faithful 2007 TDV8 has had a turbo failure, apparently resulting in it pumping engine oil into the combustion chambers.

This is the only issue that I have ever had with the car since new and now have a quote back from the dealers to replace the turbo as well as one of the injectors that failed as a result of a bit over $9,000. The dealers are trying to do the right thing in terms of cost and providing trade pricing to ease the pain.

Has anyone had a similar experience locally and is this the right sort of money that I am looking at ?

Also, if one injector has failed as a result of the turbo, how likely is it that I will be up for another couple of thousand dollars for three more injectors in that same bank of the engine? Just a white TDV8 with a few extras

WD sorry to hear that mate, not good news at all.. have you got an alternative quote from an independent ? Any chance this
could have been caused by any known design flaws (as a way to get LR to cough up the reddies) ?

Cheers

My MY10 TDV8 had the actuator rod sieze at 45000k. Plus numerous other faults. One which they have never been able to resolve and has now resulted in lawyer involvement.

Some suggestions:
1. If you have issues get Office of Fair Trading involved. This is free, they cannot enforce anthing however they do keep record of all complaints, so if lots are made against one particular manufacturer, this is not something any manufacturer will want. LR also responded to OFT, though not as yet to my satisfaction (still working on this).
2. I was invited onto the Land Rover Facebook page re the launch of the new RRS. I of course accepted, and then posted of my unpleasant experiances with my RRS. Within an hour I had a reply on Facebook, the fastest response we have ever recieved from LR. My advice, use social media if you feel the need. Much more power on Facebook than on our dedicated forums. Plus gives you the opportunity to speak directly to potential future customers

Good luck with your car! Smile SWMBO owns this car I get to drive occasionally Smile

WD any news yet, have you made any headway in terms of repairs and most importantly in regard
to seeing if there is anyway LR OZ will stump any of the repair costs ???

Hey there Zilch,

Just heard back from JLR.

"We cannot offer assistance at this point in time"

So on a five year old RRS I have been quoted $25k to rebuild the engine and both turbos, or a replacement long engine at $25k + labour to remove old motor and fit new one, all this on a one owner car that was always dealer serviced on time and on schedule.

Great brand.... Great service..... Not really. Just a white TDV8 with a few extras

sorry to ask, but have you spoken to the other members who suffered the same issues
to see what assistance JLR provided, if they have covered costs in similar circumstances
you could say there is a precedence for you to at least try again Another Pommie Bar Steward down under

Hi Zilch,

Have hunted around, but the only issues I can find is around actuator arms on the turbos. The TDV8's seemed to be bullet proof.

Mine started with an Injector being replaced, which was then found to have failed because a Failed turbo was pumping engine oil into the injectors, which then lead to the turbo failing because a cylinder on the other side of the engine was pumping engine oil into the exhaust manifold- through the intercoolers - through the gap in the intercoolers (because they are separate for each side) to then break the turbo in to other side of the engine.

The dealers are scratching their head as they have no idea why and what has happened to in their words "cause such a catastrophic failure to the entire engine."

I get single component failure and it being bad luck to replace this, but to be up for a full rebuild, including cylinder block, injectors, two turbos, intercoolers etc is just staggering on a five year old "prestige, quality built, expensive motor vehicle", is just beyond me. Just a white TDV8 with a few extras

Wow, that is really frightening, those costs are enough to make one never want to own an RRS out of warranty. I am glad my XX (removed to avoid upsetting some members) is still under warranty. At least now I have a good idea when it is going to get traded......

Stornaway grey. Very nice car so far , except Dynamic response light now beginning to come on randomly. Resets when ignition switched off. Have removed filter in valve body and cleaned, was very dirty and would have restricted flow. Although still randomly comes on. Error codes c1119 62 and c1119 09 and U0434 86.

Any ideas welcome. Fluid levels ok and not leaking.
