I used to change every 2 years and lose £1000's on extras so stopped adding them and tried to buy a standard trim with level of bits I would like except last year when we bought a mini with £3000 of extras and when we sold it after a short time we lost £3000 reinforcing my belief Sad

Buying new every 2 years is the perfect way to throw money away. You're funding the largest part of the depreciation curve. I once bought a 5 month old Golf. It was £3.5k less than list. So taking account of the VW dealer's mark up, someone might have lost as much as £5k in those 5 months. £1k per month. That's just silly. Great for me though - I got an almost-new £20k car for £16.5k and it had almost all of the kit I wanted.

But, if you're going to buy new and have the choice of kit, then you may as well spec it as you want - you're getting hit anyway so you may as well have it exactly as you want it.

Having said all that, I never buy new and I tend to keep vehicles for several years at a time so I'm used to thinking "I wish it had option X fitted" and I know how annoying it can be sometimes that the car you otherwise enjoy isn't quite as you'd like. (If I win the lottery in a big way then I'll buy a new vehicle or two but until then...) 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

I usually buy nearly new unless like this time the discount matches the price Thumbs Up

The two years plan gave me the bulk of warranty then 6 months for buyer if I sold private Very Happy

This time thinking - buy new, keep 5 years and add 2 years LR approved warranty - at least that was the plan Rolling Eyes Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

I loose money if I wait to change past 18months to 2 yrs

But generally you are correct the first year is a depreciation hit for most...but options really are something you buy because you want them and they will either hold a cars value later or not make it worse! Mike

Never used mine in 3 years of ownership - looks just the right size for 4 cans of beer though - imagine explaining that when stopped Laughing

SWMBO likes the champagne cooler in the new FFRR though Thud Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

I use the centre cooler box on longer journeys. It's not quite deep enough on my MY08 to stand most bottled water bottles upright sadly - they usually need to be laid across the diagonal. Keeps chocolate nicely cool though so SWMBO is happy! 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

You could remove the cover/coin tray if you do not use it.
You will gain quite a bit of room and I do not think you will loose much cold. '08 RRS TDV8
I converted my diesel RRS to run on an environmentally friendly mixture of caribou fat and baby seals oil

It doesnt actually give you that much extra room ive found an it does make the cooler work harder to keep cool.

I still love it though Mike
