Let's hope LR can reduce the 4.4 SDV8 CO2 emissions to 225 or lower when it arrives. Compared to the new FFRR (229 CO2), the slightly lower weight and probably less drag should do the trick, especially in conjunction with a new 9 speed gearbox.

The 9 speed ZF gearbox will only be going on the transverse engined vehicles like the Evoque and Freelander. The 8 speed is the one for conventional engines such as FFRR & RRS. BMW have used the 8 speed in everything from the 1 series to the Rolls Royce Ghost. I'm guessing they'll use the 9 speed in the front wheel drive 1 series and the next generation Mini.
