Spare Tyre Wire - not winding properly

Hi guys

To add my annoyance of hitting a pothole and bursting my tyre and damaging my alloy. When the garage was trying to unwind the wire to put the spare tyre back on, its seized.

Its now just spinning. Hanging down. It wont wind up or down and the garage says i need to take it to a Land rover dealer.

Does anyone have any idea how much this is goin to cost me (on top of my new tyre, its killing me lol) or does anyone know how to fix this.

Thanks Range Rover Sport Supercharged 2006 plate

Well if you look on here you will see the price for the replacement stuff following thefts £200 ISTR

The winch failing like that might be down to your (or tyre person) use...there are some issues with winding it up without the wheel damaging it - over winding etc etc.

I assume your car has no warranty? Mike

Think you will find its a new one then. I would take it off and see if it can be repaired, but thats how my brain works

Simple replacement task 6 bolts (from memory) and you will get the new design replacement.

No wheel to worry about Mike

Had this problem myself - nearly gave up but a Rac friend came to my rescue - remove the sealed unit from the car - place it in a vice - slowly but with force pull the cable out of unit - get someone else to hold a ratchet / spanner on the bolt that lowers - highers the cable on the unit itself - this is to add resistance. I've now had to do this process twice both times with success. It's a known fault but doesn't have to mean replacing.Good luck. Thumbs Up 16MY Estoril Blue SVR.............
