Installing a navigation system - advise appreciated

Hello there everyone, as a prospective buyer of a 08' RRS TDV6 SE I have two questions:

1. The car does not have factory navigation installed in it. I have talked to the dealership and they told me the only way to get one in is to remove the stereo and install it there, leaving the space where the factory navigation is supposed to be empty. Now I would like to keep the originality of the car and stick with the factory stereo while installing a navigation screen in the space above it. Is this possible with the wiring and are there any navi systems for this or is it true what the dealership said?

I'd find a specialist car audio shop near you and ask them the question. The dealer is likely to try and push you down what's in the accessory brochure.

Note that changes to original spec would likely invalidate any warranty you may have on your vehicle.

I will do that but meanwhile I just want to see if there are any navi systems that will be compatible for such a purpose. Can you perhaps think of any brand (perhaps model as well) that would fit in that hole?

Ah, gotcha. That's if you really really want to use RR sat nav Rolling with laughter. The unit itself might be available on eBay, but I don't know what you need to look for. I much prefer my iPhone with TomTom, cheaper, upgrades automatically with map updates and better by miles.

Do a search on here for sat nav, there are plenty of guys on here that have fitted aftermarket systems including tv etc in the original orifice and quite cheaply, I remember one very clever instilation of some Alpine kit from one of our antipidean freinds?

To be honest, the RRS sat nav isn't great.

I use CoPilot on my phone (with a suitable cradle) instead. It's way cheaper than the £160+ per year needed to buy an updated DVD each year for a start...

As already suggested, there are a number of people both here (and in the D3 forum I think) who have done an aftermarket install...a search should give results. Although, having said that, with the quality of stand alone units / phone systems these days you might be better off spending the cash on something else. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed
