How to switch off air con on MY12 RRS HSE?

Hi everyone, I have had my MY12 Sport just over a week now and when I put the climate control on auto, the air con lights up and comes on, but if I press the air con button, it will not switch off? I have turned up the temperature settings and let it run for a while, but it won't switch off unless I switch auto off.
I had a D4 and recently an Evoque and was able to switch the aircon on and off when I wanted, can anybody help? Exclamation

Have read the manual already and it says to just press it to switch it off, but it does not. I'll check with the dealer during the week if no one is able to advise on the forum.
Thumbs Up

Why do you want to turn it off? The point of climate control is that you set the temperature and it just maintains that temperature. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Hi,

I've noticed this too. On 'Auto' air con is alwaus on, you should be able to have auto without it, but I cannot see how. Air Con reduces MPG, so best to turn if off if not needed.

I will ask the man from LR that is coming to see me this week about my collection of problems!

Cheers,

Auto controls the selected temperature which needs heat from the engine and cold from the air con compressor, depending on outside temperature. No air con means no control so it must be on in auto mode. In cooler temperatures although heat is required the compressor chills the incoming air to condense the water out of it. This helps to reduce condensation forming on the inside to the windows.

Switching the air con compressor off for long periods invites problems like smells from bacteria forming and seals failing, so could be a false economy in the long run.

Has anyone actually tested the fuel consumption over a period of time with the air con off and on? Be interesting to know the differences. For the last twenty year or so all my vehicles have had climate control and each one has be set to my chosen temperature and not touched again, so I have no idea how much extra fuel was used.

I looked on line and if you turn your air con off then you can expect about 45-50 mpg.

With AC off the auto button only controls the heat output and fans, so not air conditioning just heating control.

Having the AC off in hot weather means you may be roasting in the car, but allegedly get up to 45-50 mpg. Whistle Rolling with laughter

And if you let it roll down the hills it goes up to nearly 70mpg. Honest.

I'm not bothered about the MPG (45-50 is a dream), if I were I would have a different selection of cars to what I have sitting on the drive currently, for me it is more to do with why it is on in the first place and why it wasn't on the old RRS

The Red One, sorry mate I have an earlier car so can't really help. Seems strange to me though if you can't turn it off when you want to. Good old Land Rover. MY16 AUTOBIOGRAPHY Indus silver with some toys
