Numberplates..

So guys..
Here is the situation, have the X5 sitting on my drive, now sold and paid for by our client, but he doesn't want to take it home until his new plate is on the car, and isn't in any particular rush or anything..

But the thing is, the X5 already has a private plate on it.. i have sent this off to be retained with the relevant docs, and am now waiting for the V5 to come back with the rest of the paprwork showing the original 02 Numberplate, then i am going to get the guy to purchase his plate off the DVLA and have it assigned to the X5 and go and sort the rest out himself at DVLA..

Is there any quicker way of doing this? as nowadays retaining a plate, the docs take 2-3 weeks to return! so ive got the pimp mobile rotting away in one corner, and an X5 parked up looking sad in the other.. and the rest of the cars kinda squashed in (because both my parents can't park properly/straight/with any logic...

The reason i ask for some tips is,
I have the KAM ** Plate on the Pimp Mobile and i have all the necessary docs, and have the car available for inspection, i want it on my new RS4 when its arrives next month, if i send off the retention application now, it should come back 2 week of june, and then ill get Audi to stick it on for me onto the RS4 using their runners.. Would this be the quickest way?

Kam that sounds about right.

I have always swapped my cars and plate without trauma - but have in the past pulled my plate off [ onto retention ] so able to sell my car privately - it didnt take long to receive the new paperwork from the DVLA.

You could always ask the Audi dealer if they would take the PIMP mobile in as part of the deal - just for them to be able to do all the numberplate changing for you ???

Thanks guys.. i was wondering whether i was doing things right, normally dealers do the transfers for me too, as i take my old plate from car to car, have had this taken off the RRS and its on retention now ready to be flogged off at some point, now want my new all singing all dancing cherished plate on the beast when it arrives..

MDP, i don't think they would want the pimp mobile in as part of the deal, but i don't think they would mind sending their runner to Worcester for me, to retain the plate on my behalf off the pimp mobile, as the salesman at Audi has become like a mate and knows the full lowdown on the pimp mobile, he offered me loads of advice when i was buying the dragon back in March, so he should help me carry it to the RS4 too..

The X5 thing seems to take ages though, at the moment ive sent it off to be retained (the old gaffar number) and then when the V5 arrives, i need to send it off to get it in the name of Mr Hussain who's bought the car, then when it lands back, then to wack his plate on? might have it on my drive for about a month and a half at this rate! can i do name changes and plate change in one go on the V5?

2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Stornoway Grey

You might be able to do it in person at the local taxation office if you have the odd day to spare. I did that when I transferred the MUD plate onto my Defender, had the transfer papers and everything together with the new plates made up (which they didn't want to inspect!). The Edinbugh office also has a counter for dealers and another for Joe Bloggs the general public so I only waited about 10 minutes before being dealt with, all went very smoothly and quickly and I was expecting to wait hours there. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
