Tailgate Struts...a word of warning

Noticed the bolt at the top end of the OS main tailgate strut appeared to be showing 5-6mm of exposed thread when I opened it over the weekend. A search around suggested a TSB was issued and it appears that this is a known problem on early MY (mines an 06) RRS and D3's. If the thread fully exposes it can be a big headache including cutting into the D pillar to remedy the problem, so..............

A small open end spanner (14mm I think) did the trick. Get them checked and tightened to avoid a problem I think .
Hope this early warning helps someone.

Thumbs Up Carl

Carl,

I am unsure as to exactly where this is, could you post up a picture?

Erik

Hi Erik,

It's just at the point were the main tailgate (not the glass hatch section) strut, drivers side for a right hand drive vehicle, joins the body of the vehicle. I'll take a picture for you at the week end. Carl
