Extended Warranty?

Hi all,
New to the site looking at a 08TDV6RRS, wondering if anyone has had any major issues with this model?
Also been offered a 2 year extended warranty for 3K is that a good deal or should I shop around?
Any help will be appreciated.

Tim

Hi Tim,

I am very new to the forums and new to Range Rovers, but from what i have read here and the investigating I have done myself, the only worthwhile warranty is the Allianz one.

Search for it and i think you will find the same.

I ma also in the same boat as you and looking at either the TDV6 or TDV8 , just not 100% on which way to go ...

I have done the search and found not much in the way of warranty's too, will end up with Allianz i think.

The D3 forum say much the same about warranty's aswell.

I made the decision and went with an 08 TDV6, the TDV8 are holding there value and are not worth the extra K's they have on the clock.

Mind me asking what you paid and where from ?

Im finding the cars are within $10k of each other like for like (though given the car will have to come from over east)

are you happy with the power ? what car did you come from ?

Congrats Smile

I got my 07MY RRS TDV6 in December after looking for nearly 8 months. I would have liked a TDV8 but they all had high kms and it was important for me to get as low Kms as possible - ended up with one with 38,000km in a colour and trim I like - I do not like black or black interior and there are a lot in this combination.

I have put up 14,000km so far without issue but learning more about them I am concerned about the long term reliability if Landrover service intervals are followed. I will change transmission/diff oils well less than recommended.

I do not have extended warranty and there are plenty who swear by them and others hate them. All I can recommend is to read the fine print thoroughly (even getting it reviewed by a solicitor) because you get nothing or little if you have not followed servicing and other requirements to the letter. Also remember that Aust does have statutory warranty provisions that cater for fit for purpose even outside the makers warranty - problem is getting a court order in enforce it.

We have come from an 06 D3.

Bump. Love to hear what others here have done about extending or not extending their warranty.

Rang around a few places to get some prices for our TDV6 RRS thats coming off warranty soon.

Trivett - LR/Allianz 2yr 200,000 kms - $2620
Purnell - LR/Allianz 2yr 200,000 kms - $3495
Alto - 2yr 100,000 kms - $3484.13
Alto - 2yr +50,000 kms - $3642.86
SCC - Allianz 2yr +50,000 kms - $3825
SCC - Allianz 3yr +60,000 kms - $3838
Platinum Direct Finance - Allianz 2yr 100,000 kms - $2***

Surprised Trivett came up with the best price for the official LR/Allianz product, and the rest aren't even close. Platinum Direct's price for Allianz is pretty good, but add to that 2yr NRMA road side service (which is included on the LR/Allianz product) it comes to $2***.

From the 3yr service completed just this week, quite a few problems like lower ball joints and an oil leak was found and fixed by Trivett, wavering the confidence I had in our relatively problem free RRS that has only done 30,000 kms. Originally the plan was to start servicing the car at an independent specialist once warranty finishes.

Not sure what we will do yet... Neutral

I would go for the Allianz Warranty. It is a very short document which effectively covers you as per the original terms and conditions.

If you look on VW website the policy wording is there - because you are effectively buying an insurance policy - have a read and I think you will find the cover is good.

Also note the Allianz is an offer an acceptance policy - so you have to apply for the warranty, they assess the risk based on the individual car, and then accept it.

I will be buying the warranty for sure when I get to the 3 year mark. 2011 TDV6 Luxury - Baltic Blue, Ebony with Contrast Stitch, RSE, Stormers, Towpack.

Having had a steering rack replaced, compressor and a host of other small repairs done under the Allianz warranty, this has to be the best investment I've made.

I think that thus far, the extended warranty (costing circa $3k) has covered around $6k in warranty work. 'Black Betty' Java Black RRS 07 TDV6

Likewise on my MY06 2.7, had compressor, ball joints, lower control arm bushes (now they wised up to it and state this is now wear and tear Evil or Very Mad ).

A great investment in case something major goes wrong, or adding up the small stuff means you can get your money back in terms of repairs Thumbs Up

regarding the extended warranty will LR or Allianz only provide an extended warranty to an already existing warranty?
and if so what happens if that original warranty has expired? does that mean no extended warranty possible?

a bloke the other day was telling me they wouldnt supply one if the original had already expired.
interested to know.

I think if the original warranty has expired then you cannot buy the LR/Allianz product.

I know that even the LR/Allianz policy is offer and acceptance - that is you have to apply for the extension and it is not guaranteed.

A work colleague had his application refused due to the km's on his TDV8. He drove Bowral - Sydney each day, so the kms were high.

He paid the $$ to the dealer for the policy, but a couple of weeks later the dealer rang and advise it had not been approved, so he was refunded his money.

I could be wrong, but my last car (VW) extended warranty could only be purchased prior to expiry of the factory warranty. 2011 TDV6 Luxury - Baltic Blue, Ebony with Contrast Stitch, RSE, Stormers, Towpack.

JON yes you are right. I called Allianze and LR today and they both said the same thing.

Seems most RRS im looking at that have extended warranty have very high kms say 120000 and upwards or they have lower kms but no extended warrenty... Laughing

Im reluctant to buy purely based on getting a warrenty as the options are far more limited on vehicles but I know its the smarter thing to do. Exclamation
