Anti roll bar stabilizer

I collected my car from my dealer today - a great independent one, who advised me that the anti roll bar stabilizer had a slight oil leak. This part I understand dampens the car when going around a corner, and uses oil to do so.

Evidently the leak is not serious at the moment, so he has has wiped it down topped up the oil etc. However he did indicate that it will need resolving in due course. Whilst it would appear that the part could be removed and new seals fitted thereby resolving this issue, a seal kit is not available - so a new part is £809 plus fitting.

The car is out of warranty at the moment, but only has 35k on it, so I contacted LR to see if they would help with the cost - nodding and scraping - acknowledging that they have no liability etc Bow down . They were fairly curt with me and said that they wouldn't. My argument which fell on deaf ears is that the part really shouldn't be failing after 35k and 4 years, I'm not particularly surprised by this, and accept that at then end of the day i'll end up paying for it - but if you dont ask !

I just wondered if anyone else has had experience of this, and if there are any cheaper alternatives to a completely new part ? Any help or advice would be appreciated.

For the sort of money a new part is, it must be worth taking the old part off and seeing if there is a commercially available seal available or whether a new pattern gasket can be made up.

Anyone got an exploded parts type picure of said item?

effort involved to get it off mate, id be wanting to fit a new part, last thing you want is to have to replace it

X5pea - blindly fitting a new part at less than 20k miles, which is what mine did, without knowing what actually failed, seems madness. If it was not under warranty I'd want some root cause analysis to confirm I wouldn't be having a groundhog day in the near future.

Fitting a new part is exactly what i would want, they arent all failing at 20k, infact some are lasting till over 100k. By all means investigate what failed if your interested in forcing LR hand on the matter but it would be madness to start to solutionise a fix given the effort (cost) required to remove the ARB.

If the car is within warranty i cant see why the ARB wouldnt be covered
