The limits for extended or emergency profile are roughly 8kph (5mph) or 45 seconds of travel. After either of those conditions are met it will lower to off-road.

So what happens if after 45 seconds you aren't clear of the obstacle? Shocked

Well, you end up with a nicely dented fuel tank ..............

Bear in mind it's 45sec of continuous travel - you can stop and restart if it's going to take longer.

Or get shortened height sensor rods Whistle

Well guess what - I have a dented fuel Tank protector (the metal shield that covers the fuel tank!) from this happening back in about July 2008. My RRS (quite rightly) went into extended mode in the Wombat Forest, only to lower itself whilst I was still needing extended mode! In fact the whole rear suspension went lower than the front, as the people I were travelling suggested at first that I had punctured my rear air bags!

Is this detail RE extended height and 45 seconds covered anywhere in the owners manual?

It wasn't in the 2006 D3 manual. I don't know about RRS or later ones? Curiously, my 2006 D3 didn't initially have this limit i.e. it would stay in extended all the way up to the 50kph mark. Only after the air compressor/valves upgrade did it revert to what I was told was 'standard' behavior!

Pic of the console when you get it into super-extended mode and my RRS in super-extended mode.

Is that front bar the genuine LR one Question

If so does it fit with the winch with no modifications

Yup, all the front end stuff are genuine LR parts. I've got the nudge bar, the winch and the undershield. You can see better in this pic, we had to do some mods to the nudge bar to fit the winch and notch the undershield so the nudge bar mounts would fit. Basically had to cut off the bottom bar between the uprights where the winch sits. Wasn't a major modification and took a day to do with the assistance and major cooperation of my local landy dealer.

Sounds like you have a great dealer too Charlie - is that the dealer out near Virginia Beach? I went in there while passing through Norfolk Va, and they were exceptionally friendly and helpful, even though I wasn't remotely going to buy a car from them. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
2018 Melting Silver Mini Countryman PHEV - soon to be replaced
2015MY Corris Grey SDv6 HSE Dynamic, the best car I have ever owned, totally reliable only a cou0le of rattles in 3 years, now no longer in my care
Also in my garage is a 1996 TDi300 Defender 90 County HT made into a fake CSW

Hey Tim,

I got the winch and undershield installed at the Tyson's Corner, VA dealer, right now I'm frequenting the Alexandria Dealer, and have had the pleasure of visiting the Richmond one as well. All stellar establishments and have been great to work with. The Richmond one went out of their way to help me out with a mechanical issue that was my fault (a bit to aggressive on crossing a gully) for free! Alexandria has replaced various odds and ends on the vehicle free of charge and put on my rock sliders for me as well, and Tyson's did all the modifications and were excited to do it.

The way I think they see it is having this thing driving around town covered in mud and looking like it's a blast to own is free advertising, I personally know of at least one person who went to purchase a rover at Alexandria who mentioned my car specifically, and another two who went there to 'make their RRS look like that one I see in Old Town!' Smile

Gotta love a win-win situation!

One of the techs at the dealer mentioned the 45s interval. In my experience it seems to vary, but then I don't know how slow you have to go for the car to consider that you've stopped. Note that it's 45s of travel, not just a 45s period.
