Germany 2006 Range Rover Sport TDV6 SE Cairns Blue
Bad luck or what??

Coming home yesterday, a cloud of white smoke (a big one) was coming out of the rear of my car (Oh bother thinks I, the head gasket has gone). ADAC (German AA) come out and find a hose for the coolant at the back of the engine is marked for two clips but only one has been fitted and the hose has blown off, thus spilling 4 litres of coolant over my engine Shocked

Take car to my dealer, they check it out, all ok and I am taking it back in tomorrow for airbag light on, creaking steering wheel, rasping noise from underneath front of car in third gear.

I take car about 20 miles down road and it starts juddering....strange I think Question Then the smell, yep, BRAKES stink. Pull over and there is smoke pouring from my offside rear brake and the disc has turned a wonderful lilac colour.

ADAC called for the second day in a row, car put on low-loader and taken back to dealer from whence I had departed 25 miles earlier. ADAC give me a new 5 series diesel that is really rather nice.

It seems as if the factory forgot to attach two clips (so I would check the clips on your coolant hoses at the rear of engine). The brake seizure.....errrr, I will let you know.

Cars.............I love 'em Laughing (The dealer though, quietly asked my wife "Is your husband always this calm under duress? He is not like our normal customers!!)"Ex-military, worked Distress and Rescue plus SAR, whilst only 19 years old, of course he is calm!!)

Great will check it out. Maybe just your BAD luck, as have not heard about this being a coomon occurance. They say bad luck happens in 3's so not to doom you but watch out for the next"Mishap" Or prove them wrong and lets hope nothing more goes wrong.

Good luck, and remaining calm is good, as long as you get the expected service.....DONT get taken for a ride, due to being calm.... Someone

Okay. Dealer confirmed that a clip was definately missing. (remove the large plastic cover on engine, pull back the plastic material between the engine block and the dipstick and there is a hose there. There should be a clip on the top and bottom of the hose. (Mine only had a clip on the top).

My brake caliper on the passenger side (rear) had totally seized.

Dealer was excellent. They could not get the parts before the bank holiday so would have been without car for a week. However, as they like us, they cannabilised a new car for the needed parts (new rear discs, pads and calipers) and I had my car back within 24 hours!!!!!! (Having worked in auto industry, I know that canabilising showroom cars for spares is a huge no-no and I have only know it to happen once before (in the last 15 years). Full valet was included too!
