Nearly 4 Weeks Later - Replacement Windscreen Is Going In!!

Finally after my windscreen being badly cracked in January nearky 4 weeks ago - Autoglass are installing a new one as we speak!

That piece of glass for the MY10 RRS has been on back order from the factory - I've just been quietly thinking that if the car was unusable & I didn't have another to drive - I'd have been royally screwed!!!

I'm just praying that the Auto Dip Headlights function works once the new piece of glass is in - although the installer does seem very competent from what I can tel...................... Bow down '10 Jaguar XKR Coupe 5.0L Supercharged.

Don't worry, Autoglass will do a perfect job.

I discovered a few years ago that Autoglass remove and replace all glass from vehicles at most Land Rover dealerships around the country when required. Glass replacement is such a specialist job that not all dealerships have the technicians with the necesary skills.

They replaced my screen last year due to a damaged heating element. Thumbs Up Arctic Frost TDV6 SE. Aspen Leather, Cherry Wood, Privacy Glass, PTI, Tow Pack, Mudflaps, Tasmods, a new Fuelflap, a RRSport.co.uk umbrella in the boot & a RRSport.co.uk sticker on the rear glass.

Well chaps I am pleased to report that as per your predictions - they did an excellent job!!

I rang the Dealership in Yeovil & they did also say they subcontract Glass Fitting to the experts!!

In any case - I'm pleased to get the car back to looking on top form!!!!! '10 Jaguar XKR Coupe 5.0L Supercharged.

Folks - I have 2 screen problems. The first is that I have a chip in the front that has been mended by autoglass but it's in my eye line and I would prefer to have the whole screen replaced - will they do this under the normal insurance?
Secondly there is one line on my rear screen that doean't demist. Whilst this isnt life threatening I do find it annoying.
Any advice would be appreciated.

Sorry to hijack your post but it seems to be concluded.

Cheers

If your vehicle is still under warranty you should be able to get the rear screen replaced free of charge.

A quick phone call to autoglass should advise you if the front screen replacement is still covered by your insurance. If not a 2lb hammer could easily create another insurance claim. Arctic Frost TDV6 SE. Sport Driver,

Autoglass quoted me £871 for a new winscreen, just wondering do you know if yours was around this price or did the insurance deal with it all?

Cheers

Yeah £70 excess on my insurance, but I took the car from a dealer on the proviso that they would pay for the windscreen to be repaired/replaced. After I told them Autoglass quoted £871 for a new one they said they could get it done for less than £300. As you can imagine this sounds a bit dodgy to me and I'm not going to let them get some cowboy in to do it so just trying to get a price idea in my head before dragging the stealer over the coals.

Not a Land Rover dealer BTW prestige car dealer over 300 miles from where I live so not too keen on taking it all the way back to them just to get it done by some fly by night they employ. I've read the stories of leaky replaced windscreens.

Bullet Thumbs Up

Bullet - I have to pay the £60 excess & the VAT on the whole job; which in turn I will claim back off my VAT Bill.

The bill from Autoglass is detailed as:

VAT - 168.22
Total Value - 1129.54
Value subject to limit - 901.32

Excess - 60.00
VAT - 168.22

Total due from motorist - 228.22

That was pretty much word for word - so £300 would sound rather cheap to me..........

Hope you get it sorted though. '10 Jaguar XKR Coupe 5.0L Supercharged.

So you are having to pay 300 odd ? Is that down to your insurer ? I had a few screen on last RRS 3 or 4 IIRC all around £1150 each and £50 each time

Yeah they say the total cost of the job is £1129.54.

We are expected to pay the Excess (£60) & the VAT on the repair (168.22) - both of which will be put through my company.

The VAT is not really an issue - since we claim this back when doing the quarterly VAT.

I think this is because it's on the company's insurance + owned car if I was an 'idividual' for example then it should just be the excess. '10 Jaguar XKR Coupe 5.0L Supercharged.

Just had to replace my front screen on the RRS after it split from side to side. Cost from a local auto windscreen fitter was £500. My wretched insurance doesn't cover it, so I rang around, got the lowest quote, went back to the best sounding fitter, and he agreed to match it. List price of the screen from LR is about £380 plus VAT, so properly fitted for £500 all in seemed pretty reasonable to me. It was about 90 minutes labour for 2 guys who had driven a round trip of over 100 miles to do the job. RRS TDv8 HSE Rimini
