Gas Injection Systems

Over the pas couple of months I have founfd myself doing some work vicariously with Gastek recently. Those of you who spent some time at the Land Rover Expo at Castle Hill earlier in the year will remember them from the fantastic demo they did in the centre field with the big arch.

The more I find out about this system the more intrigued I get and am seriously looking at having one installed in the sport.

Has anyone looked into it or had it installed? 'Black Betty' Java Black RRS 07 TDV6

Just an update on the Gas injection status.

It appears that they are yet to install a system on a sport. Apparently there are a few issues finding enough space under the engine bay, but the guys have been fantastic and should be getting back to me this week with a plan of attack. Fingers crossed it will be able to be installed before xmas so I can have a play over the break while on hols.

Looking at 20% increase in power (minimum) and about the equivalent in fuel economy.

According to their tech info the needle injection technology is controlled by an independent CPU that interprets usage and injects the gas into the fuel mix up to 100 times a minute to increase the fuel burn rate from around 80% up to 95%.

The end result is an increase in power right across the rev range plus little-to-no black smoke at the tailpipe as the majority of diesel gets burnt.

You can also modify the CPU to change the power vs fuel economy. 'Black Betty' Java Black RRS 07 TDV6

There are a range of benefits including reduced wear and tear on the engine, significantly reduced emissions, more control over unit settings and better fuel economy over most conventional chip systems.

The minimum 20% is just that. On a TD5 they got a 40% increase in power output.

A quick update on the Gas Injection - looks like a no go for the sport.

Due to the lack of space under the hood and under the car, the only option for the small gas tank is to remove the spare and put it there.
This in turn means locating the spare in the boot which is already way too small, or putting on some racks and mounting it up top. Neither of these appeal enough for me to warrant doing it so I'm back to investigating chip options.

Naturally all systems vary somewhat, however, my dealer has had a S/C FFRR in twice now............for 2 new engines!! Shocked Shocked

As LR do not support LPG under their warranty, its down to you as an owner.

Now arguably this could be seen as a one off, but the numbers don't add up as he has now seen {many} through his door with Knackered engines, all down to gas conversions. It seems the S/C engine hates gas!!

Thanks for the heads up.

With the LPG and LRA Warranty, do you know any details about what they will cover?

This is not a conversion as such to LPG but a small micro tank and patented needle injection system that injects LPG into the diesel mix replacing about 25-30% of the diesel with LPG. You don't have to change any other mechanicals as the injection takes place inline through the air intake system.

The result is a greatly increased burn rate and a lot less pollutants. 'Black Betty' Java Black RRS 07 TDV6
