A dealer can order as many cars as he wants, with our without a signed contract with a client and lots of dealers do order a few of cars to have something to display in their showrooms. I reckon that in your case somebody was just quicker signing on the dotted line... It's first come first serve, isn't it?

When I went in to see my dealer a fortnight ago for a software upgrade of the PTI system I was also told that people having placed an order for a diesel in March will have to wait til spring 2007 for their cars to arrive. Amazing! Apparently the reason behind this is a serious shortage of TDV6 diesel engines... Can you Brits confirm this?

No such waiting list for the V8 though. You should be able to get one in about three months.

BTW I would avoid buying "offshore". If you are unlucky and get a lemon or even with a car with few technical faults you'll still need to get software updates, bring it in for recalls, etc, etc. (just check the various posts in this forum) and I can assure you that LR Switzerland will not treat you the same way as if you would have bought from them.

Well, Land Rover themselfs have told me that they need a contract from the client in order to assign a car to a the dealer. Of course being a dealer you can order as many car you want but the question is if they will ever get them....as a matter effect you can call every single dealer in this country and you will see that no one has a RRS TD6 in stock for sale..

These guys specialise in Land Rovers for export to anywhere in the world, including the UK and have a very good reputation.

There is another Dutch company called something like de Huiter that also do these export only cars. I'll try to find their website for you.

Thanks Tim, I might have found one in Holland, they should get one next week in Bonatti Grey/Ebony.

Will keep you posted,

JJ

Best of luck then but I am wondering whether you are still going to buy in Holland after you have been gone through the nitty gritty with the Dutch dealer.

Believe me, for somebody based in Switzerland it just makes no sense buying a LR abroad. To begin with you'll certainly be paying more for the car, then you have to import it, get all the paperwork done, etc, etc.

Also don't forget things like the three years free service and three years free break down assistance (which really covers everything) you'll get in Switzerland. You wont get the latter service from LR Switzerland if you drive a foreign bought car, so make sure you get that service from the Dutch dealer. It's just that you might have to wait a little for them to arrive here in Switzerland if you have a breakdown..........

Just compare the brochures/price lists carefully. BTW I've paid CHF 88'800 net (= EUR 55'500) for my HSE Diesel with metallic paint, sunroof and PTI.... try to get that somewhere else SOMETIMES YOU'RE THE BUG AND SOMETIMES YOU'RE THE WINDSHIELD

Roland, I'm sure that what you're saying makes sense, i.e.Service,Road ass. etc. Price , including Swiss VAT it's approx. Sfr. 2000.00 cheaper buying in Holland. They give your more discount since they can keep some in stock!
I just think that's absurd waiting 1 year for a car....!

Java Jungle, that's fair enough.

I think I wouldn't have bought an RRS if I would have had to wait for a year. Lots of things can and do change over a period of 12 months, new better engines (...how true), new specs, etc, etc ....... and last but not least our personal situations, tastes.... SOMETIMES YOU'RE THE BUG AND SOMETIMES YOU'RE THE WINDSHIELD
