Command-Shift problem

I'm having a problem with my gearbox. It works fine in Auto mode, but will only engage in Command-Shift mode intermittently. There is no fixed pattern, sometimes it engages, and sometimes it doesn't. I'd say it's 50/50 at the moment. Haven't had a chance to take it back to dealer yet, and I'm in Canada now, so I'll take it in when I get back.
Anyone else had this problem? Confused Confused Question
Thanks

I'm afraid not.

How old is your car and what mileage has it covered?
Do you use Commandshift frequently (Could it be a worn part)? Runner up - 2009 Best Avatar Award Sad

I remember a few years back there was a similar problem with automatic Freelanders and it turned out to be a problem with a plastic bit in the selector linkage, those were JATCO gearboxes. Sports have a different make, I think it is a ZF box. I will have a look in the GTR technical bulletins and see if there is anything there about gearbox problems. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

There is nothing in the GTR regarding Technical Bulletins, there has been a recall on automatics and that is dated November 2005 but I cannot access the detail. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Hi SuperT - sorry to hear about your scratch. My car is brand new, picked it up on March 8th. Done about 1500 miles so far. The problem appeared after 3 days of ownership. It wasn't a major problem to me, as the vehicle works perfectly well without Sports mode and Command-Shift. Also, I was on a trip to Ireland and I didn't really want to waste a day taking it back to the dealer. I'm back in UK on 19th, so I'll take it in asap.
I do find it useful though, to slow down and manual mode is fun too. Anyway, it's brand new, it should work.
Thanks for the replies guys, and thanks for checking Tim.
I'll post and let people know what the problem was when the dealer fixes it, although being intermittent, you know how it's going to behave as soon as I take it in!!!!

I think that the recall Tim is refering to is the gearbox in PARK mode. On a few cars/instances when a vehicle was stationery and put into park ( without engaging the electronic handbrake ) the car was found to move Shocked a faulty plate was diognosed - ie. didn't slot into the gears to prevent movement when PARK selected.

antfoster - sounds like a trip to your local dealer is needed ASAP.
