Brake Pad and Rotor (disc) life

The RRS is in for its service tooday - they are doing the 36k service even though it's only done 27k as it's got to 6 months since last service.

They are saying that the pads have about 5 to 7k left on them, and that the discs may need doing as they have a 'lip'?

I am a bit surprised they only lasted 27k km's (~about 17000 miles) or 35k km's if they get to last another 7k, can any one offer an opinion as to whether this is normal?

MLR said the lip on the discs could be to do with dirt, do i have to get these done or is this just teh dealer lifting their revenue?

The rears are ok apparently.

2nd I was told at 19K (2nd service) that the Pads and rotors needed doing within 3 months. At the 3 month point (when i booked it in) they re-evaluated and they only changed the pads. the original Rotors were changed before the Snowy visit, at the 60+K mark. Apparently there was a bulletin out for quick wearing pads which i missed at the time on the older vehicles.

As it is a "may" for the Rotors, which seems a bit vague and loose, rather than a definite, not sure if it would be worthwhile getting it independently checked/verified ?

Cheers

I'm a newbie here. Well, actually i got around umm 6000mls front and 9000 on the rear. That could be the problem with the quality of the pads and discs. Go for a good one. And Dirt could be the one more reasons for the problem. Anyhow this time choose a quality one. Hope this helps brake pads|brake discs

Australia 2007 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Java Black

Hi 2nd Rower,
I had mine done at about 42000k. I was told they needed a grind but at the time the guy wasn't available to do it so the pads only were replaced and have bedded in and worked fine. I am pretty skeptical about disc grinds as I have replaced plenty of pads on my alfas in the past without problems. The trouble about waiting for the light to come on is that it is an excuse to replace the sensors as well. I was extremely disappointed at the excessive labour cost for replacing the pads.
cheers,
