Used to be an Avionics engineer on Bow down Concorde for BA. Moved out here and set up my own business manufacturing Cedar Shakes and Shingles (Wood Roof Tiles)...quite popular on govt buildings in the U.K. Check us out. www.cedar-roofing.com. THe website is a bit dated (in the process of changing it).

Cedar is a natural inhibitor and has oils whch provide a preservative to keep the wood from rotting. It has greater thermal resistivity than concrete and steel meaning it will keep your house cooler in summer and warmer in winter!! No to mention th lowest carbon footprint of all roofing material, I guess it kinda offsets my rrs/sc!
I can catergorically say NO ronseal needed, although I agree you can have whatever color you want as long as you use a semi transparent stain!!!!! Very Happy

2nd Rower, there is a class B and class C fire retardant treatment available and you can actually obtain a class A roof with cedar shakes. less than 1/100 of 1% of fires actually start on roofs so by the time it gets there, there is usually not much left of the structure.
