Scotland 2006 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Rimini Red
Wheels

My dealer said he wasn't sure if the 20" wheels 5 spoke design could be fitted to my eagerly awaited Rimini Red D HSE. Does anyone have any idea if this is correct? Rimini Red HSE (D).Gone but not forgotten!
Subaru Impreza Turbo (UK) 1998- had her since new,could not part with her. Used for weekend blasts! Pehaps the Best 4by4byFar!

Well if page 2 of the RR Sport Accessories brochure is anything to go by - full page photo of a TDV6 with the aforementioned wheels- then you can.

Apart from which why should you be able to fit ordinary 20" and in my case Stormer wheels without any problems and then not be able to fit the 2 piece 5 spokes.

If it's any help I have had a bunch of stupid answers to reasonable questions from my dealer as well. It seems as though product knowledge is not a requirement at LR dealers but, I guess when a model is running out of the door on it's own you only need booking clerks to take orders! 11 XFR

I'm in exactly the same position - dealer would not recommend the upgrade from 19" to 20" wheels as I wanted the Stormers on the tdv6 hse .. in fact went as far as saying the option has been withdrawn... I will probably call land rover central and not my dealer to find out if I can get 20" or not

20" Wheels - TDV6

You may like to look at the photo of a single car in my gallery - it was taken at the dealer launch for the RR Spot in Monaco in April.

Rimini Red TDV6 HSE with 20" 2 piece, 5 spoke alloy wheels.

This was a Land Rover press car.

I have found that talking to the parts depts. or the service people is much more useful than speaking to the sales people who are hopeless at the two dealers I have been in touch with.

Guys - there is a potential risk of putting the wheels on a non-SC.
There was a service bulletin issued a few weeks back after people who upgraded their wheels to the 20" had complained about vibrations when braking between 65>55 MPH - The service bulletin notes that PRIOR to installation, the service technician has to check if or not the HSE model has been fitted with 'anti-vibrating' steering rack - supposedly there are some HSE's that are fitted like that and some that don't - if you don't have this anti-vibrating steering rack, then you are prone to have issues - I have recently done the upgrade and as a pre-caution had the wheels aligned and balanced - so far i have had no issues - Even with pictures that come w/the service bulletin, it's virtually impossible to see if you do or don't have this option without putting the car on a lift. So - i can see where LR reps may give different answers and they are right..... - Robert

Hi Guys

Just thought I'd chip in about the 20in or even 22in wheels thing.

Is it all just about the look or is there an on-road advantage to having the larger wheels?

My only experiences of cars with 20in wheels are an RR vogue and an Alpina B12.

I drove the RR back to back with a Disco (on 19in wheels) and I think the ride quality on the disco was better because you could feel the RR going over every little road blemish. The disco was just so much less jittery. It is the same comparing the Alpina B12 to my fathers BMW 7 series with 19in wheels and M sport suspension. The ride quality in the Alpina is far worse than the standard car and I think it is down to the bigger wheels.

Do the bigger wheels improve acceleration or give more relaxed cruising?

The bigger wheels are so expensive (although they do undoubtably improve the look of the car) and if the are detrimental to the ride quality I wonder if they are a good idea.

Also, how easy is it to get tyres for these bigger wheels. Up here it can even be difficult to get tyres for my fathers BMW never mind tyres for 22in rims!

By the way, my brother-in-law who owns the Alpina is looking to sell if anyone is interested in acquiring a future classic. Its a 97 R-plate Alpina B12 with about 72K miles. Fully loaded 5.7Lt 387hp V12. Cost new £108K. It is awesome.

I'll post some pics of my upgrades later today; the wheels (20") defintely makes the car look better; as for ride / handling , i have not noticed a harsher ride, i think the air suspension is doing a great job in keeping the ride comfortable -

I think as you go larger (21, 22") it will become significantly more harsher plus the risk of damaging the rims has increased. - Robert
