Shocked

Ok, amazing as it may seem (considering my post), I too am for hunting in general, in fact I host the local hunt within my fields, but I am 110% against bull fighting. Not sure why it urks me so much, but I find the whole thing rather gut wrenching and miserable.

It cannot however be compared to any other hunting exercise as it is (a) not hunting and (b) all weighted in the favour of the pratt with the large beach towel and multiple swords..........the bulls weapon of choice, apart from shear size is quite obviously snot. Yep, if he gets cornered, he has to rely on a big flob from each nostril to try and deter the pratt from sticking a great big barb in between his shoulder blades.

Understand its a cultural thing as foxy woxy hunting etc WAS (cough, cough) here Whistle but for me, bull fighting is and will remain an outdated cruel and barbaric past-time that belongs in the history books. Crying or Very sad

Got to love this forum for varied dialog....we tackle lifes great questions !! Thumbs Up My Gladiators:

Will,
I think a lot of people would also think that angling, fox hunting, grouse shooting and deer stalking are similary cruel and barbaric if they hadn't seen it themselves.
It won't be long before they are all banned here, hopefully by then I will be safely ensconsed in either rural France or Spain.
This is one of the pictures I took as he delivered the coup de grace, dont think many hunters would have the balls do you?

It's a very emotive subject and each to their own beliefs.

Personally, I don't like the whole bullfight thing but as that is the case I just simply wouldn't pay to go and watch it and 'support' it that way.

As I said though, each to their own and those that do choose to go, make that choice of their own free will Thumbs Up 06 RRS TDV6 HSE, Java/Ebony, PTI, Running Boards, Privacy, S/C Grille/Vents, Stormers, Tasmods, Black Badge Soon...

It is refreshing to see that the forum can enter areas of discussion a million miles away from cars ......

I am 100% against bullfighting and see it as nothing more than cruelty of the highest order. If I were to repeatedly stick knives into my dog I would be justifiably charged - why does tradition and the animal type make any difference whatsoever.

Do you think its OK to throw live goats off the top of churches in spain in the name of tradition and culture ?

Bear baiting. dog-fighting and cock-fighting were popular traditions in this country not too many years ago - should we bring them back as well.

Oh - dont think I am against blood sports per se. I fish most weekends and recognise the fux hunt (when done properly) as the most effective way to control vermin.

I think it takes big balls to kill a bull like that - but I wouldn't want to do it. Like I said earlier I am more like ST not interested in going, but wouldn't ban it because I probably don't understand it.

MX fox hunting is a very ineffective way to control fox numbers, lamping with a rifle, snares or driving to shotguns would all be more effective. What it is however is a natural way of selecting the weak and of course you have 0% wounding. DS3 TDV6 HSE

I really do think all bloodsports are a difficult and emotive subject and a question of where one draws the line.
Can't see how morally one can be against one and support another just on where the animal concerned comes on the emotive food chain scale i.e. dog, bird, fish, bull, bear, horse or goat.
Although I agree some could be seen to barbaric in my opinion they are not more so that some equally barbaric farming and slaughtering practises (such as hal al where the cows throat is cut and disembowelled whilst still fully conscious) which go on behind closed doors to put food on our tables.
Why as an example have we banned the practice of surgical docking of gundogs shortly after birth but continue to sanction the docking of lambs tails by the use of tight elastic bands which surely must be more painful?
Clearly it is also cultural,I for example wouldn't consider eating a dog but in many countries it is considered a delicacy as is horse meat. 2008 8.5 TDV6 SE Stornaway,Ebony and Zebrano.
