Jersey 2008 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Chawton White

I have an '07 TDV6 HSE. No drive line shunt, just the annoying rattle from the dynamic response system. Chawton White TDV6 HSE with Alpaca and Rodium, Automatic Climate Control,

The car has gone in today to have this, and other issues Crying or Very sad , investigated...It is being looked at by a Level 4 LR Tech, so I will let you know what the outcome is.

Gents,

Finally, some much overdue good news with a car that I was rapidly losing faith in…Some time back, the car went to my local main dealer. However, their tech could not find anything wrong with the car. I was not prepared to accept that a car costing nearly £40K should drive like this.

I recently discovered that a chap I used to deal with ref: Lamborghini, has now taken over the service facility at Wimbledon 4x4. They have revamped it and are an authorised LR service centre. I gave Allan a call and explained the problem. Over the phone, he told that this was a known problem and that there were a number of procedures that they could perform on the car that should resolve the issue.

They collected our RRS and left us with a brand new Freelander. The car was in for two days. While the car was there, I would get regular updates on progress. Long story short, they used a number of software updates and modified the diff. The upshot of all this is that the drive line shunt has gone Very Happy . I also had them look at the suspension as the car was not sitting level when in Access mode. That, too, has been rectified.

The car was dropped back to us, and I am extremely pleased with the outcome and the service. I can really recommend these guys. I have encouraged Alan (Service Manager) to become a member of the site, so that we can have direct access to his expertise.


For the avoidance of any doubt, I have no affiliation with Wimbledon 4x4 other than being a satisfied, new customer.

Hi,

I had the same shunt in my Disco 3 (54 plate) I told the dealer at service time and they told me there was nothing wrong with the transmission. I have since got a RR sport on an 06 plate and it does exactly the same.
Must be atrait of theirs.

My dealer said, "normal". He suggested that when these cars cruise along off-throttle, they put themselves into neutral to save petrol. So what is happening, if that is the case, is the gearbox re-engaging. Wierd?? 2006 Black/Alpaca, Hi Ice, Dynamic Pack, 19" wheels, Clear Pack...

Enzo I think your were told the first thing that came into the service managers head............................... when the car is cruising on a light throttle then the fuel ECU reduces and can even stop the fuelling to save fuel, the gearbox doesn't go into neutral A Carbon Footprint is the mark a lump of coal makes when it's dropped on the ground.

This clearly feels like a transmission firmware calibration issue. The transmission mechanically is probably okay. Its likely that the shift points (shift schedule) and torque converter lockup schedule were not properly calibrated from the factory. I feel the same thing on my 2006 Range Rover Sport. It feels like the transmission is "hunting" for a gear.

I had similar issues with another automatic vehicle (1997 Ford Thunderbird) when I started messing around (re-programming) the shift schedule, line pressure, and torque converter lockup schedule. The car's transmission would "hunt" for a gear. This is why the Land Rover "patch" is fixing the problem. Its probably nothing more than a calibration update at your dealership.

The shifting of the vehicle is probably (I don't know the Jag PCM, just the Ford EECV) performed based on RPM, current gear (shift table selection), THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR (TPS). The TPS is a huge factor in deciding when the vehicle shifts. This is why you are able to reproduce the problem based on speed and how you apply the accelerator. 2006 Cairns Blue RR Sport HSE

its a know prob with the 6 speed ZF auto gearbox - i had it on my former 2 Jaguars and on a friends BMW 7 but never had it with the RRS Smile 2006 RRS TDV6HSE java black/alpaca

I had one of those "software updates" at my last service having specifically mentioned this issue and TBH i haven't noticed it reoccuring since. 2008 TDV6 WHITE/EBONY

I have complained about this every time the time car has been in to the dealer for other matters (9 times now!). The gearbox has been re programmed etc but it has not made any difference.

IMO it is definitely a transfer box/rear diff/prop shaft issue. It is possible that re programming the auto box parameters could help smooth the drive uptake at low speeds but this feels very much like a back lash issue.

A techie from LR drove my car on a visit to the dealership. They did not let me go out with him. He reported back that there was no problem. I have driven others with much less of a clunk and have been advised to report if it gets worse. Which I do on every visit for the other trivia such as anti roll bar bushes (twice) rear door seal, steering rack, stereo, lower arm ball joints, bluetooth module,

I shall try and get the energy together to push again for this to be looked at as it definitely is not right. Thanks for the update and it is intersting to learn that folowing a diff modification Diablo's clunk went away...

I have had mine sorted but feel that this isn't the solution to everyones problems. My driveline shunt was huge but I have now had the rear drive shafts replaced and my RRS drives like new again. Thumbs Up RRS 2.7 TDV6 HSE Zambezi silver,Alpaca.
