Hi 2nd Rower

I dealt with Darren when I went to MLR in Port Melbourne. White isn't that common, I have only seen one....it may have been you!

I would also have quite liked white but there was nothing in stock or immediately available at LD in Doncaster. I also don't think that I have ever seen a Rimini RRS other than floor stock at the dealer. I quite like it but resale is important and I hope that Stornoway will be ok. What I didn't want was sliver or black, there seems to be so many of them in silver and the dark colours (black or buckingham) are very hard to keep clean.

I dealt with Darren too. Must just have been conditions at the time as to whether a discount was available. I know it all needed to be approved by the sales manager though.

TBH white was always my preferred colour out of all of the RRS colours. I was lucky as when my need arose (car being stolen) my car was already built and on the boat inbound to Australia - about two weeks away at the point I placed the deposit. It was a choice of the white or one of two javas - so never a contest in the decision process, with Sunroof and towpack the only extras on mine. Apparently when it arrived at MLR a couple of other people liked white in the flesh and inquired about buying it!

By the time i collected mine the two javas were also sold and one of the guys that wanted mine had taken the Demo they had. So at the start of Nov 07 MLR had no RRS available for Sale, and no demo until their next allocation arrived in end Dec / Jan 08. They had to ask LR Australia for extra cars and were given a rimini which is when the comment I mentioned earlier was made! 2008 WHITE TDV6

You have about the same spec as me, I have metallic paint of course as well. Didn't see the need for a satnav, I know Melbourne well enough and a Tom Tom is a lot less than $6k!!

Have you installed any kind of Bluetooth system? I haven't done it yet since a) I don't like the idea of someone dismantling my dash area at all and b) if they put a module somewhere, it may rattle in future which will drive me nuts. I don't know what to do other than a bluetoot compatible sat nav thing....?

Yep - Sat Nat at $6k is just too much of a premium for me!

I have the parrot 3200 - it was recommended by MLR, and iirc there are a few other recommendations on this site. There are also many comments on this site about the difficulties of getting the factory blue tooth module to function fully, so glad I don't have that!

Took me a while to locate the loom to connect it through the stereo and car speakers, refer to this thread:
http://www.rrsport.co.uk/forum/topic9509.html?highlight=

The install is very good, no rattling or damage to the dashboard! I quickly worked out how to upload the address book and now the unit functions very well and I have no complaints whatsoever! 2008 WHITE TDV6

i have been quoted 650 Aussie for the Parrot system totally fitted by the land rover dealer. But my tomtom has blue tooth, so cannot be bothered at the moment, the tomtom will suffice

Thanks 2nd Rower, I read that thread in detail when I first joined. Where did you put your Parrot Screen? Any pictures of the finished job (if not the install)?

Right now, I am leaning towards Zilch's solution, having something autonomous without any surgery being required...

Zilch, what Tom Tom do you have? Do you attach it to the screen? I was thinking of trying to get a small Bluetooth sat nav which would fit (velcro type job) where the LR screen would otherwise be on top of the rubber mat....I want it to look neat.

Any ideas my friends?

That's steep - seems lik they are charging you a LR premium there! That said I didn't pay for mine so don't know the exact cost! 2008 WHITE TDV6

It's on the far right hand side of the radio, above the right side knob but below the airbag warning light.. It's almost a natural place for it.

I'll try and take a photo. I don't have photo's of the install happening, this was done by an independent whilst my car was at the Stealer being serviced. 2008 WHITE TDV6

It fits nicely in the cubby hole above the radio where the landrover satnav system would normally go, so not on the windscreen, but nothing stopping you putting it there. I have the 710, which has now been replaced by the 720. It gives you handsfree dialing, mic pic up, address book, sms etc via the tomtom interactive screen itself so pretty neat. I use a Sony ericsson personally and a company blackberry, they all work fine. Question is whether you want it permanently installed wiring wise or do what i do, which is take it all with me as i do not always use it around Sydney.

Cheers

Thanks for that. I have two questions since I think your way is how I would like to go.

Will the 720 fit neatly like the 710 in the "cubby hole"?

Will the GPS antenna pick up GPS signals if its in the "hole"?

I use a Blackberry Curve for work and play so if it works with yours, the 720 should work OK with my BB.

Cheers

TomTom works fine inside the car, Wifey uses her GO910 in prefference to the LR satnav and she can swap it between cars and only have to learn one interface ... saves me from a headache Whistle Sons of dogs come eat flesh

United Kingdom 2008 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Stornoway Grey

Couple of the guys over on Freelander2 have integrated their Tom-Tom's into the hole in the dash where there should be a satnav - they have made a really nice job of it too. A Carbon Footprint is the mark a lump of coal makes when it's dropped on the ground.

TDv8 HSE - Stornoway Grey with ebony and straight grain walnut wood-a-like interior with towpack, Tasmods. The best car I have ever owned
Now departed - Giverny Green TDv6SE with Aspen and Parchment interior - nearly the best car I have ever owned
Staying - Epsom Green Defender 90 for playing off road

Thanks 2R Looks neat. Where does the wire go to from the head unit? Is the microphone integrated into the display unit?

Cheers

Here is the fully removable version, or should i say just to lazy to wire it in properly. Sorry about the resolution, it was dark and taken on a crappy phone camera. Imagine to the left a power cable from the 12v outlet up to the cubby hole , In the middle a thin cable going up from the cubby hole to the Drivers sun visor were the mic and associated clip is fitted.
