Last night dad put in half a tank of BP Ultimate (petrol) into the car (he actually drove to morrisons and my little sister pointed out that they dont do 'ultimate or vpower' so they drove to a bp). The car was dry (only about 10 miles of diesel left in it). He then drove the car home (~1 mile). Then left again a while later and finally the car gave up a few miles down the road.



Anyways, i have exams till next friday so dont have the luxury of letting it bug me right now. Just went down to the local rental place and got me an 08 Auris for 7 days since LRA wouldnt give me a car .

Car is at CHPR at the moment. 2800 miles on the clock and not had one problem before this .

FIRSTLY im assuming the TDV8 doesnt have any kind of special filter/detector to not let petrol go through?

Otherwise, Few things i wanted to ask from you guys. How do i deal with this? Ok so its not covered under warranty since its user error. Does this mean i dont get a courtesy car? DO i have to pay for everything? Diagnoistis, parts, labour? Does this then affect my 3 year warranty?

I just been reading up on the TDV8 and it seems its supposed to have a cut off in the fuel filler neck if it detects a petrol nozzle. Why would this not activate?

I thought the cut off was only fitted on the FFRR.

Have you tried contacting your insurance company? I'm sure a few people have posted on here and on the Disco 3 site, saying that they have heard of people claiming on their insurance as accidental damage. Arctic Frost TDV6 SE. From what I have read most companies do cover it, if not it is one hell of a bill. So I was told by LRA, the diesel is the lubricant for the fuel pumps, which the petrol causes to break down and sends pieces of metal through the fuel pipes, often needing a new engine or rectifying work that is as expensive as - good luck DS3 TDV6 HSE

yea but if i dont get them to do it chances of the warranty still being 100% valid is low. They confirmed warranty will remain unnaffected after repairs once they do them.

I got the quote from the dealer. It is depressing at 5kish,

11 hours labour
Fuel pump, Fuel Pipes, injectors, diverter pipes?.

How much labour/parts discount do people usually get from the dealers?. They knocked £10 of labour and 5% off parts. The figure is still . Im not fussed if it goes through insurance, but if im paying cash i want the best price possible.

No courtesy car either because they dont have any loaners available, and apparently when this happens they usually just get them from LRA but they wont give me one because its not a warranty issue.

Insurance will cover it but im having some issues with no claims protection. Its on the 'policy shedule' but the broker says its not on their database. If i lose the no claims its not worth going through insurance with £1000 excess and the resulting hikes. So just waiting on that to be sorted.

Also if i pay myself i have the car back by friday, otherwise have to wait on an insurance 'assesor' to come down and see it. Which could take a week before they start repairs.

Either way, another day in the Auris . 50 mpg .

Tell the dealer that you want a quote for doing the job without going through the insurance...........
I did that with some damage that the dealer repaired on my TDv6 - basically it cost 1/3rd the price for me to pay...................... which delighted LR Insurance and in the end I paid and didn't claim on my insurance! It appears to me that insurance jobs are an excuse to load the bill.

Have you tried asking a nonfranchise Approved Land Rover specialist what they would charge to do it? My local guys charge £28 an hour for labour instead of the £120 an hour that main dealers charge which makes a huge difference to the final bill, and they still use original LR parts. A Carbon Footprint is the mark a lump of coal makes when it's dropped on the ground.

Yea they dropped the parts 5% and went down to £110 an hour when i said i was going to pay. Going to grab the list of parts now on the way home from the dealer and see how the bill adds up .

Right so its monday and a few things have got me really annoyed . Firstly, after calling the dealership on friday and being told id be called back in 10 (not 30) minutes and never getting a call back me off. This led to the weekend rental of a range rover which cost almost as much as the TDV8 does a month .

STILL no TDV8 in the drive . After calling them myself this morning the dealer (returns the call 3 hours later) is telling me the fuel pump is due to arrive tomorrow. Still no courtesy car.... and to expect the car repaired by thursday/friday. (after previously telling me it should all be done by last friday). Part of the reason im paying upfront was to stop the delay of having to wait up to a week for an assesor to come down and approve stuff. Bit annoyed now.

I need the car to go germany on business on thursday so this sucks as ill have to cancel, or fork out for a rental + the mileage charges.

Im no expert but looking at this that Bobby posted on a previous thread. Is there any reason why they couldnt do most of the other things and just have done the fuel pump related stuff when it came in tomorrow? Considering theyve had my car for over a week and the parts in since middle of last week (except fuel pump). I got quoted 11 hours of labour on the invoice.

Vehicle has been driven until it stops:

1 . Referring to the relevant section in the workshop manual, drain the fuel tank.
2 . Remove the fuel tank assembly.
3 . Remove pump/sender module and invert to drain excess fuel.
4 . Remove all traces of residual fuel within the tank using clean absorbent cloth/paper.
5 . Clean and flush all low pressure pipes.
6 . Renew the fuel filter.
7 . Renew the high pressure fuel pump.
8 . Renew all high pressure fuel pipes.
9 . Renew the diverter pipe and both fuel rails.
10 . Renew all six fuel injectors
11 . Reassemble pump/sender module to fuel tank and install to vehicle
12 . The tank must be filled with clean diesel fuel
13 . Road test vehicle for at least ten miles, checking for normal engine operation and no stored diagnostic trouble codes are logged.
14 . Return vehicle to customer.

Neways going to have to put in a formal complaint since i am annoyed land rover themselves havent given me a courtesy car. Yea ok petrol in the tank is user error. Their not paying for the repairs though. So the least they could do after spending over 50k with them just over a month ago and paying £5k for repairs would be to give me a damn courtesy car .

Where do i send the complaint? (other than the dealership)

Before having the tdv8 I had a tdv6 and the same thing happend to me. Filled up the car and after 100 meters the car stopped! Long story short: my dealer picked the car up and after emptying the tank changing the filter and some other stuff, I received the car back withing 3 hours...got an invoice of 280.00 Euro!!! I bought the tdv8 in Switzerland and on a Land Rover magazine from last year it says that it's not possible to fill up the tdv8 sport with petrol due to a system which recognises the "nosel"!...??...

Different system for different countries??...

Hi Viewwise, Bad news putting petrol in. I have said before to others that have done this, a friend of mine did this with his X5 & was facing a hefty bill to rectify it, so on the off chance called his insurers & they paid up! Seems to me unless its stated in their T&Cs that fuel contamination isnt covered you must be in with a chance. After all no one does it on purpose. Even X5 owners!! Got to be worth a phone call. mate, I have a story what happened to me with my BMW, lots of problems etc...and I then managed to find out the MD's PA's name - and spoke to her and she got me 15 mins with the MD from BMW - anyway, all turned out well, I got 50K off a 6 series.....PM me if you want, and will tell you more.
