What a choice...

Lake District is beautiful, Scotland is good fun and you can drive fast on Man Thumbs Up

In Scotland, what about the East Neuk? I can personally recommend Elie for sure, you'll find it's rather quiet just now (before the summer rush) which may be better, there are hundreds of child friendly things to do (Number 1 - it's on a beautiful beach) and it's just a gorgeous town.

Loads of places to stay, have a look at http://www.elielet.com/main.HTM for accommodation. "CY from DISCO3"

IOM Ferry can be a sickening start to a long weekend Shocked

Scotland is a long way to drive and often shut when you get there Confused

Lake District is close, fabulous and fun at all times of the year, what ever the weather.

Try :

The Log House in Ambleside : http://www.loghouse.co.uk/

Or

For a self catering cabin type arangement try Whitecross Bay on Windermere : www.southlakelandparks.co.uk

Or for a whole week holiday in the best, child friendly, central self catering accommodation in the whole world, try Rookery Cottages in Ambleside : www.rookerycottages.com Whistle RRS TDv8 HSE Rimini

Can recommend Paulo's route, some fantastic roads - with relatively light traffic Ardmamuchan Peninsular is also a beautiful place to go, and one road you must drive is the west side of Loch Lomond/ Arrochar, Inverary (dropping in at Loch Fyne Oysters, THE place to stay is the Crinan Hotel on the NW end of the canal, then Oban, Mallaig, back to Fort William, coming south through Glencoe, but turn off to on a "there and back" single track road to the end of Loch Etive. Come back to the road through Glencoe and follow it via Tyndrum, Crianlarrich/Callander/ Stirling and back onto motorways to drive south. Do it now before the midges come out of hibernationat the end of May A Carbon Footprint is the mark a lump of coal makes when it's dropped on the ground.

Tata TDv8 HSE - Stornoway/ebony and straight grain walnut with towpack, Tasmods and an HST grille. Coming soon LEDs in the headlights
Staying - Epsom Green Defender 90 for playing off road

Ah, Oban... this is where my Mum's family comes from. Part of the mad Cameron clan Wink

I take it needs to be more local than Cornwall, Anthony?

I drove too and from Cornwall with a 6-week old and it wasn't fun (took about 8 hours I seem to remember, where it would normally take between 3.5-4hrs!) so I understand your cautiousness Wink

Speak to these chaps, if you decide it's not too far Very Happy
