Josh,

I've just had a look at another TSB dated 9 November 2007 and in it the VIN-range is 900109-122778.
I'm sure your vin-range is somewhere there. This can only mean the earlier TSB I posted should cover your vehicle as it says "900290 Onwards". And this TSB is dated 18 March 2008, so surely your vehicle is built before that!

Cheers! Thumbs Up

900290 wil be 6A900290 MY 6, Joshs vehicle is 8A129 MY 8 Thumbs Up

Thanks Bobby and Plum Exclamation

So bulletin covers from MY06 onwards.

Fantastic I'll take it with me on Wednesday when my next scheduled two day visit to the local LR garage is booked. Rolling Eyes Banging Head

Fingers crossed otherwise I'm off to Charles Hurst asap.

Need to get this sorted before I replace the tyres which are due to be done very soon. As I feel there is a link between the tyre wear and the knocking. MY08 RRS TDV8 HSE, Stornoway Grey, Ebony and Zabrano, sunroof, hybrid tv, premium ICE, rear E diff, privacy glass, side steps, mud flaps, S/Grey mirror covers, Venture shield, tasmods, smoked indicators, Larini sports exhaust, etc, etc.

Normally in the TSBs, the VIN-range will only show the actual 'serial number' and does not include the MY.

Anyway Josh, on Wednesday when you take the car in, please 'report your concern of a knock.. ". Only then will the dealers take action as per the bulletin. Good Luck! Smile Malaysia Boleh!

well, after only 3000 miles...the knocking has returned....again!

This is the 4th time now. Aside from the ridiculous seats issue, I am beginning to wonder if a 5l SC is really worth it. 4 times....you just couldn't make it up. Surely time has come for mass action and ultimately refusal of all cars until its fixed and rectified?

Have sent email to stealer quoting march tsb....let's see what happens this time. These things really start you questioning why you stick with British, 50+k for any car is a lot, but for a car that sounds like a lada....I don't think so land rover.....if your reading this, get your fingers out and stop treating us like idiots, remember WE make or break your sales figures. Now is the time for some pro active action!! My Gladiators:

I had a FNS lower ball joint replaced yesterday, new tyres and 4 wheel alignment. They said there was excessive movement in the joint which was causing the noise.

Perhaps it's a good job it hasn't been off road in the last 10 months Rolling Eyes

First long journey will be this pm so fingers crossed. Silence is wonderful Thumbs Up

Also I was getting what I can only describe as a dragging type sensation on the FNS when negotiating roundabouts.......That has now gone as well. Back to being a smooth quiet drive.

But I'm not going to pat the Master Tech on the back just yet. Booked in for it's first service on Monday week. So will give it a week to confirm it is fixed. MY08 RRS TDV8 HSE, Stornoway Grey, Ebony and Zabrano, sunroof, hybrid tv, premium ICE, rear E diff, privacy glass, side steps, mud flaps, S/Grey mirror covers, Venture shield, tasmods, smoked indicators, Larini sports exhaust, etc, etc.

Yes Stratstones at Newport Pagnell did the work. They have been very helpful to me, which made getting through this problem a lot easier.

Well actually no Chris, that is a bit harder.
I have spent loads of time on mine - even had special anti-roll-bar bushes made specially with smaller internal diameter, lubricate with vaseline to stop the creak on side ways movement, etc etc. I have changed the DR fluid from Dexron 3, which is the Texaco cold climate fluid that LR recommend, to Dexron 5 and slowly cured all but the DR standard knock. As the vehicle gets hotter and the oil gets thinner - the longer the journey the louder it gets. If you take fuse 9 out of the under bonnet fuse box the noise goes. This switches off the DR system. When you move the steering wheel the steering wheel angle is detected, this data is sent to the ride height control module, body control module, DR control module and it goes on and on around the vehicle. When this signal is received the DR module then activates the valves in the DR valve body to direct the fluid to required roll bar and you get the thud. The reason for this is because these days the tolerence levels in modern valve bodies are massive, - far too much for the perfectionist engineer. You can capture the digital signal on a live scope and prove it. Now with this tolerence level you always get a few that come out spot on which is why Kaine never had the problem. ( just one example)
The reason for these tolerences is because with modern electronics you can fine tune the system to overcome any discrepancies that you have engineered into the valve body through the software inside the ECU. This is fine with things like transmissions, and let me tell you ZF are the worlds worst at this in this RRS 6HP transmission. (They even admitted that to me themselves 2 weeks ago)
The way in which this DR system works is that because of the transition inside the valve body when the valves move and the fact it is bolted to the chassis you get a metalic clonk from this. The hotter and thinner the oil the louder the clonk.
I have requested a replacement of the DR component on my vehicle to try it under warranty an I have been refused. So it is back to the drawing board.
I do fully understand the water hammer in the LR TSB but the answer is it could be cured at a cost. You don't stop playing because you get old, You get old because you stop playing.

Re the dynamic response knocking, would it be helpful to confront the dealer with this...?
