Some of you might have followed the saga of my 2005 RRS Supercharged, basically it has a problem with the parking sensors. Stratstone in East London has had the car several times and has now given up on fixing the problem.

You read correctly, they have "given up", citing the fact that the vehicle is an early production one hence any problems are inherent to the vehicle and there is nothing they can do about it.

So I contacted Neil Lynch at Land Rover customer support, after a few weeks off trying to contact Matthew Cullen at Stratstone (he has a knack for not calling back) Neil came back with this pretty appalling message:

-Stratstone will NOT take the car back
-Stratstone do not believe there is a problem with the sensors (despite me having evidence there is)
-Land Rover will NOT allow me to move the claim to another main dealer.

In fact what was suggested is that I get the work done by another LR dealer and then sue Stratstone. Yup, they suggest I go into litigation over the work that Land Rover and Stratstone are contractually obliged to perform.


Which effectively makes me understand that owning a Land Rover is a liability. 2007 Audi Q7 4.2 FSI Grey/Black Int.

Has it escalated to becoming an emotional thing for you or the people at the dealers?

I'd go to another dealer anyway and explain the situation. No reason for another dealer not to want the work....

What does the system do wrong? Not beeping in forward gear by any chance? That's a module change.... Range Rover Sport SC - Java / Tasmods / Skirts

Is your car out of warranty because of miles? Unless you have a pre release car you should still have just over a month on warranty. RRS 2.7 TDV6 HSE Zambezi silver,Alpaca.

Mine is the 403rd RRS ever made, possibly a press car, Warranty ran out in late February...first warranty claim was made in December...

My wife swapped her Maserati Spyder for the RRS at Maranello Sales in Egham. The Spyder was handed back because it had two consecutive major failures, steering and then brakes.

The had just been bought by Lancasters hence they had a Land Rover dealer in their group.

We went for a straight swap in October 2007. 2007 Audi Q7 4.2 FSI Grey/Black Int.

Then surely your RRS is still covered by 12 months used car warranty.................................... vaild until 12 months after you took delivery or at least until September 30th 2008. Was it sold to you under the Approved used scheme? A Carbon Footprint is the mark a lump of coal makes when it's dropped on the ground.

Andrew, none of this strikes me as right... as far as I'm aware, no used LRs go off of main dealer forecourts without being part of the Approved Used programme and as Tim says, should come with a years warranty from the time you bought it. The only reason it wouldn't come from Approved Used is if it was more than 5 yrs old, which it obviously isn't.

There's more to all this than meets the eye....  

Have you thought of contacting your local Trading Standards office and putting a complaint through them.

I think I am also correct in saying that under English Law if a fault on a product can be shown to be a manufacturing defect then any warranty given is not the end of the matter and that you have consumer rights extending to 7 years. Im sure someone else on this forum may know if I this is correct or not or if I've explained it properly.
