As my Gas Oil bill is now topping £250/month I am looking into a wind turbine or similar to help bring it down

Has anyone on the forum ever looked into this and could give me any pointers where to start looking - i.e. recommended companies etc. Want to do a Grid Tie in plus battery back up however obviously dont want to spend too much as that will defeat the objective. Luckily I live at the top of a hill with pretty clean air with only a few trees around us so should get fairly good results with the right gear

Any 'useful' comments appreciated

Tell me about it,just got this months Aga oil bill,1000 litres now £539.90,to put that into perspective when we moved in about 10 years ago it was £80 for the same amount.
Hopefully this lot should last me about 3 months.
The National Trust is just about to install a wind turbine in the cottage next to ours which is even worse because it doesn't have electricity and has relied on a generator.
My friend has just installed one on his remote farm up on the moors near Tideswell,let me know if you would like to talk to him and I'll give you his number.
He runs day courses on how to do it and what it costs,I know he got quite a large proportion of the cost back in the form of a grant and quite often is selling his generated electricity back into the grid.

Suggest you buy some electrical heaters and a stove then....
- Is that constructive or have I totally missed the point?

You might want to consider a ground heating system. Takes the heat out of the ground during the winter. Can heat the whole house. Expensive though.... Range Rover Sport SC - Java / Tasmods / Skirts

My local B & Q always have a sales reps in selling wind turbines/n solor pannels....... might start you looking in the right direction if theres are not what your looking for

Wind turbines are fine if you have enough wind! Currently running an anemometer on site for a 12 month survey. Surprising how many non windy days there are. Power has a cubic relationship to wind speed and also size of the blades. You want to get the biggest one you can in the windiest spot. Expensive things though!

Have you thought of an air source heat pump to replace / augment your oil burner?
