United Kingdom 2008 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Java Black
What do I buy next?

Hello all!

I have sold the RRS and now need a new car. I was thinking about another 4x4 but just don't know what to get. I test drove the Honda CRV (don't laugh!) yesterday but it's too uncomfortable.... Don' want an X5 (for obvious reasons!) or a Merc or a Freelander 2 or a Disco..... Has anyone tried the Santa Fe by Hyundai?

Any other suggestions? We are just about to have our first baby so has to be practical and economical...

Any REALLY sad to see the RRS go because nothing compares, but needs must! Sad

Thanks! On order - FL2 TDV4 SE in Black

SOLD - MY08 | RRS TDV6 2.7 HSE in Java Black| Ivory Premium | Zebrano wood| Factory fitted privacy glass| 20” alloys| Side Steps| S/C Grile and vents| Hybrid TV| Front and rear mats| Boot Liner| And now RRS.co.uk Umbrella!!

go testing driving

some options;

VW Tiguan (but auto's are almost impossible to get hold of at the moment - read more at www.mytiguan.com)
Nissan X-Trail
Toyota Rav4
Honda CRV

I'd steer clear of Korean myself as they do feel to 'cheap' to me

I had a Korean car prior to me getting the Freelander 2

It was a Kia Sportage (sister company to Hyundia), was pretty pleased with it, until it had a accident and took 8months to repair

Then a transit van took the near side front end of it when it hit it at 40mph whilst been parked

The level of damage was surprising for a low speed impact, god knows when it would have been like if i was driving at the same speed

My advice stay away from the Hyundai, unless the safety ratings have improved

The Citroen, Nissan Mitsubishi 4x4 (name escapes me) looks good value for money and the 5th Gear review was good too, they opted for the Citroen I believe

United Kingdom 2008 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Stornoway Grey

Older versions of the current Range Rover are good value and once you put a private plate on it then nobody knows how old it is! Visually they carry high miles well and the interior is on a different planet to the current RRS for luxury. With a new baby on the way though access to the back seat ins't as good as you would expect for such a large car and if you are petite then access to the boot from the rear hatch is a stretch. If you can afford a post 2006MY then that was when they had a facelift and interior remodel and got the TDv8 and Terrain Responce.
Jame's team at CH would be able to advise. Problem is long term reliablity of the 1st generation could be a problem as the 2002/2003 cars were somewhat troublesome. Also the BMW 3.0 TD6 engine is nowhere near as smooth or quiet as the TDv6 powered RRS...................... you can pick up the earlier ones for less than 20k now but they will have a lot of miles on them. TD6 Vogue is nice but if you can stretch to the running cost of the 4.4V8 Petrol version that is even nicer - problem is 18mpg!! A Carbon Footprint is the mark a lump of coal makes when it's dropped on the ground.

Tata TDv8 HSE - Stornoway/ebony and straight grain walnut with towpack, Tasmods and an HST grille. Coming soon LEDs in the headlights
Staying - Epsom Green Defender 90 for playing off road

personally I dont buy older than 2 years old - what would you guys consider for under £20k, under 2 years old and suitable for a family?

Congrats on getting rid of it at last Boolia, hope you got a decent price in the end!

Let me think.... 4x4, suitable for the family... how about an RRS? Wink

I have heard reasonably good things about the Santa Fe, if you can put the fact it's a Hyundai to the back of your mind... CRV is a good bet in terms of practicality, but the 2.0 petrol drinks like a fish and stupidly, they don't do a diesel auto (at least last time I looked they didn't).
