NP, the SW monsoon causes a swell that breaks over the reefs of the Maldives and stirs up the water in the lagoons making it less than turquoise and clear and more silty and dirty. Also the SW Monsoon makes it VERY humid even if there are clear blue skies and sunshine. I had simular with the Trade Winds when i did a Kenya Safari and then a beach holiday, the lovely white sands where covered in seaweed and plastic bags

though the hotel had them racking and cleaning the beach first thing each day every day but it wasn't like the photos in the brochure,

We also had some problems during our holiday to Mauritius (february 2007).
Cyclone Gaméde (category 4 cyclone) also wanted to pay Mauritius a visit, so we had to stay inside for 4 days.

Look at the Havufen Fushi resort - they have 2 resorts - one island to themselves with only 6 rooms on it...fantastic but very expensive - £12,000 for the week.
