How old are all of you lot??? You really need to take a good hard look guys....Jags.....mmm ok, the new XK I can understand (just about) but an XF....I don't care how nice the inside is - the front looks awful....and I still think a BMW 530D and a 535D licks the car in terms of being one of the best diesel cars around. Ok, go for the V8, and watch yourselves lose more money than Northern Rock...

But hey.....what do I know....the X Type and S Type were class leaders!

I'd rather drive a Lexus than a Jag - and thats an awful thought.....

5 Series have no soul - they may be the 'best' but are so....zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

I'm not keen on the front of the XF so I'm with you on that one - dont think its awful though

wrt to rather driving a Lexus than a Jag Thud Thud Thud Thud Wink

There is a diference between making a decision to buy a car based on a love affair with jag and one based on what is actually a better car - ok BMW do lack the spirit and feel of a bespoke type car....but it must be said the 35d is an incredible engine - verging on a classic. I just don't think residuals will hold up - but if you don't care - then thats fine. Still think Jag have along long way to go to get rid of the old man tag....I often think the british motoring press big up Jag due to the british work force and are wary of saying bad things about it - but it never stopped people saying bad things about Vauxhalls (rightly so by the way). I still think, for eg, if you asked people what they would prefer to have on their drive, they would say a BMW or an Audi, an in terms of the XK, I know I'd rather see an SL (albeit not the new model) but an SL 55 or a Maser...

Doesn't Brucie drive a 5 Series? He's too old to drive a Jag these days and will soon be old enough to drive a Honda Rolling with laughter

XF losing money, have a look at autotrader, there is a six month wait for one and it's growing! They are over book already, I'm thinking of running one for a year!

Steve good luck to you....run it for a year and you should do ok. But with all new cars you will get the hype and keep your money. I might keep my money on my Maser...lets see. You could also go for a Fiat 500 and still be quids in. Did you know the Mini is the best depreciation fighter (this side of a Ferrari 599) for the last 3 years?

I just don't think the Jag has that kerbside appeal - ok the BMW doesn't now either - but still think there are better ways to spend 40K. Personally, if I had to chose, I'd probably go for a S5 - ok only 2 door, but 2nd on my list an A6...in fact, forget all that - not sure what i would spend it on.....but could not go down the Jag route.....but mate, bets of luck if you do. The rear looks very good - it's the front that kills it for me.

I think the XF will do for Jag what the RRS has done for LR - the order books are overflowing already! Haven't driven it yet, but from what I read it's what the S/X type should have been. I'd still drive a 5-series over it, but I'm not surprising anyone there Wink

England 2005 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Java Black

My wife's (matching) java black Jag XF was delivered a week ago - it looks absolutely gorgeous in the flesh. We've been stopped by admirers in car parks so it's not just our opinion either. Drives beautifully (both are 2.7 TD V6) and the driver experience is great. The touch screen woo's you, but after living with it, there is too much integrated into it, and the RRS is actually more ergonomic.

Both are great looking cars - I'll post some pics of them together...

The Jag Version of the 2.7 TDv6 isn't the same as the LR version - 1st the Jag has 2 turbos to the LR V6's one. The block and lubrication is different as the Jag doesn't need to go swimming or drive across hillsides at angles up to 40 degrees. I expect the performance of the Jag version is much more similar to the TDv8 than LR's TDv6 - and it has half the weight to drag around as well! Must admit that I wouldn't object if I had to drive an XF instead of an RRS.

I still think the front end is an awful bit of design work, could have been a lot more sleeker and not as open mouthed. Interior is a great attempt and will be much of the attraction. But again, I think Jaguar should just concentrate on sports cars - and I shall state, I would buy an XK if it had a new interior or one like thw XF in parts.

Would have an Audi or BMW 5 any day of the week over it - you'd never have to worry if anything was going to go wrong with it - sometimes this is the feeling I get with the RRS. But I love my RRS - but just could have been a whole lot better especially in the interior end of the product.

Ours arrived yesterday.
Likes:
The whole of the interior is clad in beautiful black leather, top of the dash and doors included.
Keyless Go works a treat.
Love the rising gear knob and rotating vents which should stop the leather dash top getting covered in millstone grit dust at night.
Leather on the seats about the same as RRS Premium leather, seats much more comfortable than either the XJ or S class.
Sound system superb with Itouch integration on the display with connectivity by cable tucked away in centre armrest.
Flappy paddle works well, just a bit of a faff to get reverse with the Idial knob but should be OK after a while.

Dislikes:
Boot is like a letter box, very similar to my old Audi 80 Sport.
Sat Nav seems to be either identical or similar to my RRS which is pants compared with Tom Tom in terms of ease of use and POI features.
Interestingly on a mainly motorway run up from Looberoo this morning its returning low 30's mpg, obviously early days and will no doubt improve but makes me feel a bit better with the amount of diesel my RRS is eating through.

Overall it's a great car, much better than the S it has replaced, can't wait to give it a thrash up to Glasgow next week, apart from the bit around Shap of course.
