Kam - it's not all it's cracked up to be m8. 3rd party insurance doesn't help if an accident is your fault. If you trash your Dad's A8 or the Merc its gonna cost you much much more than the £500 you save in premiums Embarassed

Kam,

Only one or two Insurance companies allow 3rd party cover on other vehicles and it may even be none by now Exclamation

This happened since the Insurance/Police database went live. On the database you need to be a named driver on that vehicle and of course if the Insurance companies allowed you to drive any vehicle on 3rd party cover that would not be the case.

So I'm afraid if you are not named and get stopped or pinged on the ANPR you are going to have some problems persuading the Police from seizing your car there and then. As its up to you to prove you are insured so that can be done after the car seizure at your leisure and your cost for storage/recovery Wink MY08 RRS TDV8 HSE, Stornoway Grey, Ebony and Zabrano, sunroof, hybrid tv, premium ICE, rear E diff, privacy glass, side steps, mud flaps, S/Grey mirror covers, Venture shield, tasmods, smoked indicators, Larini sports exhaust, etc, etc.

I'm with LV and I know my policy allows me to drive other cars with 3rd party cover (with the permission of the owner, I think it says) although I appreciate that 3rd party cover isn't really much use. That post was a year ago though, so maybe the landscape has changed a little since then.

Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Not a good day.

Tesco said i had to be 21 to be insured on the RRS Crying or Very sad . Anyone want to recommend any other companies? Im struggling to get below 4.2k now (confused ect.. all in the 4600 range). (Drops to 2k the DAY i turn 21 in june..and i have a feeling in my rush to check it a few weeks ago someone might have messed up my DOB by a number without realising Whistle Big Cry .... and due to the fact i saw so many companies quoting i didnt think to look into it further till i got the car Big Cry ). I could live with paying 3k to have it now though. Otherwise im going to have to put the range in storage for 3 months Laughing Laughing . Seriously.

Even if i pay the higher rate and cancel in 3 months to get on the lower rate im looking at paying 1600-2000 for the 3 months due to the cancellation policy!

I dont mind paying HIGH excess to offset the price (1k+).

I cant seem to get any temporary cover for 3 months either till im 21. I have a few options im going to explore when everything opens up again on tuesday but just thought maybe someone on here has a good idea Smile. Feel free to PM me.

Surely even if you store the car on a SORN etc it is still going to have to be insured for fire and theft? If you have borrowed any money to buy the car you may also find that it is a condition of the loan that you have to keep it Fully Comp insured at all times. A Carbon Footprint is the mark a lump of coal makes when it's dropped on the ground.

Tata TDv8 HSE - Stornoway/ebony and straight grain walnut with towpack, Tasmods and an HST grille. Coming soon LEDs in the headlights
Staying - Epsom Green Defender 90 for playing off road

I know all about insurance quotes at 50 (I had to fight off all the junk mail in the month leading up to my 50th birthday) but you should try getting somebody over 75 insured for an RRS, quotes are similar for an under 25, even with nearly 60 years no claims bonus and a clear bill of health it was hard to get my father on as a named driver. LRI/ Royal and Sun Alliance were quite happy to accept him though A Carbon Footprint is the mark a lump of coal makes when it's dropped on the ground.

heh im 20. The main issue is it HALFS when i turn 21 in 3 months. However to get insured now id have to pay the high premium for a year Sad.

Tim - You'd think after 60 years of paying insurance without a claim theyd pay him to drive!

You would think so, but apparently those over 75 are too frail to drive faster cars........................ try telling Stirling Moss that! A Carbon Footprint is the mark a lump of coal makes when it's dropped on the ground.

I got several "Happy birthday" junk mailings from Saga last year when I had my 50th................... they couldn't cover offroad use under their scheme (maybe over 50's are a bigger risk offroad!) which is why I have stayed with LR Insurance who are happy to insure my father (and have been for the last 8 years too). A Carbon Footprint is the mark a lump of coal makes when it's dropped on the ground.
