Undoing mods

Two modifications to my newly-acquired RRS which I want to undo :

1) The chrome mirror covers. I suspect they were dealer fit (rather than after-market). Can they be removed without damaging the mirror surround ?

2) Light guards. The rear ones were easy enough to remove, but the fronts seem to require removal of the headlight unit - and will then leave holes in the grille surround. Is that right ?

You might be able to get the mirror caps off without any damage - all depending whether they were fitted normally or 'super stuck!'

Regards your grill - sorry to say there will be 4 holes left and yes you have to take the headlights out, which is very easy. RRS 2.7 TDV6 HSE Zambezi silver,Alpaca.

The mirror covers may be held on with industrial strength double sided sticky pads like numbers plates are sometime stuck on with. Usual way to undo them is with a hairdryer to soften the adhesive, then you will have the problem of removing the marks left by the pads once the caps are off, but white spirit or turps should manage that. A Carbon Footprint is the mark a lump of coal makes when it's dropped on the ground.

I would not try and remove the mirror covers if they where fitted by LR, the reason for this is they rough up the plastic before they apply the sticky stuff, hence might not be a nice sight once you get the covers off. Speed Limits! not where I live!

2008.5MY RRS TDV8, Stornoway Grey with Ebony & Rhodium. Stornoway mirror covers, Smoked side repeaters, Supercharger centre caps, chrome boot opener, Stanless steel exhaust ends, and of course RRSPORT.CO.UK rear window sticker.

BTW if you don't want to keep the mirror covers after removal then you could stick them on the for sale section and donate the proceedings to the forum admin! A Carbon Footprint is the mark a lump of coal makes when it's dropped on the ground.

Thanks very much for the speedy responses.

Maybe I'll contact the original supplying dealer to see how they would have fitted the mirror caps. My local dealer advised that I would probably need new mirrors (or possibly body-coloured covers); I had thought that might have been over-stating the situation, but maybe not !

As for the front light guards - guess I really need to find someone who wants some and to arrange a swap, complete with grill ! Is the grill easy to remove and refit ?
