Could this be because of the Automatic Locking Mechanism?

The belts in my 2001 D2 and the RRS behave the same way (ie ratchet back once fully extended), the rear belts in the RRS arenīt as long as in the D2 however. I think it is to enable firm fixing of belt-secured car seats - otherwise they would flop around....

I guess the idea behind them locking when fully extended is good. I just wasnt aware of it.

Well I swapped the car and got a new one but not for this reason. As stated here it appeares to be a "feature".

it is a feature of the car. Believe it is due to european regulation with baby and infant car seat in order to keep them in good position TDV6 HSE 07YM, Stornoway Grey
