Serious off roaders

Ok boys who has had there pride and joy up to there arse in the real stuff, I know there are a few die hard off roaders on the site but who has has the balls to play big time with the RRS? I am not talking a bit of water and sand and a bit of light mud but proper ball deep grunge? I need to know as my off roader (90 v8 250bhp) is off the road so to say and am about to play????
I have a couple of questions to those who may have ventured-, where the f.... do i fit the recocovery shackles, climbled under this morning and only found the tie down points, not good for recovery?
You guys with the G wagons, please let me know where your recovery points are????????????????

Cant say that i have ventured seriously off road with mine, and neither do i want to, but i know that there are a few on here that have,TJ101, VA but to name a few, give em time and you will get some usefull help.

Hope you enjoy off road in your RRS,it will be much more civilised than the 90 RRS TDV6 sold RRS, TDV8 nearly sold, Ferrari 355 sold, Cobra sold,

now driving an 06 Freelander sport

Might also be worth posting this on the D3 site too, they tend to be a bit more muddy than us in general and as the RRS and D3 chassis are the pretty much the same, you'd expect the same mounting points etc.

Rear recovery is where the towbar electrics are and the front one is under the plastic cover. They aren't tie down points but are suitable for "proper off roading"

Evening Gary, Strange, i also run a 90 V8 as a challenge truck, Very Happy
Have used the G4 as it was intended, a fine tool, but would suggest as a minimum, the front sump-guard !! which has access for the front recovery eye !!

The rear is as Pelyma says, a recovery shackle under the lid, where the tow electrics live V70 R, 911TT, 07 110 TDCi XS

I get my off road on a regular basis. Happy to say that i have never needed to be yanked out (although i have come close several times) I would not do a recovery from the front hook, it is a tie down and will break off. The rear point is ideal to be recovered.

I am looking into getting an aftermarket front recovery point engineered, it will bolt to the chassis. Ben

As has already been said, the front one is a proper recovery point too, not just a tie down, so don't waste your time

My LR Dealer said it was not built for recovery. Does anyone know for sure? Ben

Your dealer is wrong (wouldn't be the first time)

We've use them on RRS & D3 recoveries many times with no issues

Think Slimer is correct,, will have a look on the G4,,, if it needed beefing up,, LR would have done it on the challenge vehicles Rolling Eyes If i remember right, its a lot tougher than the normal LR "lashing" eye V70 R, 911TT, 07 110 TDCi XS

had the RRS deep in the mire, good old scottish peatbog and bottomed out even in super-extended mode and had to get pulled out Embarassed used the front recovery eye and had to have a few tugs at it to get the car out.

The patch of peat was just longer than the RRS but I never got it across it Sons of dogs come eat flesh

Bet it would get through on your MTRs now though! A Carbon Footprint is the mark a lump of coal makes when it's dropped on the ground.

Now departed - Giverny Green TDv6SE with Aspen and Parchment interior - nearly the best car I have ever owned
Staying - Epsom Green Defender 90 for playing off road

Attach a couple of heavy duty shackles on both recovery points and you'll be ready for the worst. TJ is right, the recovery points on both RRS and Disco/LR3s are basically part of the frame and very strong. According to LR, you can actually use them to lift and suspend the vehicle up in the air.
