Euroncap tests

The new Jeep Grand Cherokee has now been tested.

I keep checking the site to see if they are going to test the Disco3 or the RRS. They used to list the vehicles that are due for testing, but I can no longer find this on the site anymore. Anyone know if they are likely to test a LR? Matt

I think I read somewhere that a car has to sell a particular amount of units before it will be entered into the EuroNCAP program. This figures as the Freelander was tested some while ago and it's possible this is LR's best selling car (although I don't have any figures). I doubt there have been the same amount of D3s sold as Freelanders and I expect the RRS has sold less than the D3 by virtue of it's relative youth.

While I would agree with this, I bet there has been more D3s sold in Europe than the new Jeep Grand Cherokee which has been out for much less time.
There are very few on the roads in the UK. Matt

Yep, fair enough. Like I say I'm not even sure it's sales that is the criteria for entry into the programme, it's just rings a bell that I've read it somewhere.

I'd love to know well the RRS or D3 performs in an accident. It's a shame LR don't publish their own test results/photos in the brochures, like many other manufacturers used to. Maybe they don't crash real vehicles anymore, as it might all be done on computer simulations! Matt

Matt,
I would guess that a 'tank' built like our RRS would excell in any real world crash. The weight of the RRS combined with modern airbags, etc. would surely make it extremely safe, (for the occupants at least).
