The future smells of diesel

Have a look at this http://web.rollins.edu/~jspitzer/r10clip1.mov

It's the new Audi R10 race car. It has an all aluminium 5.5 litre, twin turbo V12 diesel engine producing 650bhp and a massive 1,100Nm of torque.

And what a noise Twisted Evil

How long before a manufacturer produces a serious sports car with a diesel engine ?...not too long I'll wager.

Morning all,

I think I read in this weeks Autocar that Audi are readily developing a Diesel version of the A4 RS4 ( spotted testing ) .

cheers MDP! Wink

Don't you hate the downturned pipes though! don't mind them in the RRS as you can't see them, but i thought the new diesel engines i.e. like all Bmw diesels could now have normal pipes? this would annoy me and probably stop me from buying one, anal i know but it just looks crap.

I used to drive a 330d sport when i was a placement student in swindon and that was fantastic, best all rounder i had until the RRS came into my life.
Sprinted up and down the M5 every weekend without a hitch at all for a full year , only reason i got rid of it was because i wanted more toys for my money and i had racked on the miles. Only lost 5k on it over 18 months as well which is pretty good going compared to similarly priced petrol models. Past: Bmw M3 Coupe 57, 335d Coupe 56, Audi RS4 06, RR Sport TD HSE 05,

See, now I like the turned down look (when they are the size of drain pipes, Imagine an RS4 TDI debadged Shocked . It would look not too disimilar from a 2.0TDI, oh what fun you could have with over taking M3's on the motorway!! Currently: Carbon Black 535d

Kam - you also have to take into account that this is just a spy photo of a car out testing and is probably heavily disguised and not the polished/finished article Wink

Fair point..can't wait to see more info on this.. might even push this out to my Audi salesman, i have sent him so much stuff over the past few weeks, seems like we should be in opposite roles..Im providing him with loads of info and video footage from around the web and from the Audi forums and he is then using it to sell more RS4's and thickening out his order book.. but still it all helps residuals!!

I was just venting my anger at down turned pipes!
Interesting that the market is moving into diesel power, i love it..
although im thinking the benefits for us as consumers are going to dwindle, i.e. probably have to pay premium for diesel models, and with diesel at more then petrol nowadays per litre, and the performance diesels struggle to pull in any where over 30mpg.. so whats the point? petrols may start to look like bargains in comparison! Past: Bmw M3 Coupe 57, 335d Coupe 56, Audi RS4 06, RR Sport TD HSE 05,
