Miles left

When I driving today my fuel warning light lit up with 41 miles range left. I then went on a motorway and my range increased to 45 miles but my warning light remained on. Surely if originally a 42 miles range left didn't trigger the light, when I increased my range to 45 miles the light should have switched off. Am I being dumb? 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

I think the low fuel light is triggered by how much fuel (in gallons/liters) you have left in the tank, not by the distance-to-empty calculations of the on-board computer. If you think about it, it is more accurate that way. The "range" can be deceiving.

I am still too scared to try this but has anyone seen what happens when the range gets to zero. In my old car it would just say low fuel once it ran out of miles in the rage, I am kind of curious what the sport would do and how many gallons are really left once it hits zero.

One time only I got it down to 5 miles left... Filled up with just about 22 gallons (US). I can't remember the exact capacity of the tank, I think it is 23 and change, so the range does seem to have a small safety margin.

Yeah, I'm a bit lazy and forgetful at times. It'll have like 14 miles till empty and I'll be like oh, I can make it there and fill up after. Then on the way home i forget to fill up and look down and the range is at 0. I've ran it to zero twice. It makes that low fuel chime again. That was it. I drove about 2 miles once on zero because i was on tthe highway and forgot to get gas before i got on. But i consistintly run the range fairly low.

Well I got it down to 0 again and turned the car off at the gas station. Then i decided i'd take a picture, but when I started it back up the range went to 3 miles. So oh well but here it is:

Has anyone seen the low fuel warning on the sat/nav screen? mine is turned on in the setup but has not yet appeared even when running on 8 mile range. Michael

You should see lots of petrol pumps appear on the map! 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

And 71F too - nice, while we're struggling to get above 0 (well, 32 if you like). I tried the 0 miles trick the other night and went about 3 miles with it on 0 before I got to a petrol station. Not sure how much further I would've wanted to go... Wink

Well if it makes you feel better, my car said it was 38 this morning. And I LIVE IN SOUTH FLORIDA. I should never see the ice warning on my car.
