New A/T tyres from Cooper

Just noticed that Cooper Tires here in the US started offering a new line of moderately aggressive All Terrain donuts to compete against your various Nitto Terra Grappler, GY Wrangler SilentArmor, General Grabber AT2, etc. They still don't make a 19" size Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad , but the good news for those of you stuck with Brembos is that there are a couple of 20" options which, according to my math, should both fit and be a big improvement over the stockers. Load index and speed rating look good, unless you race your Sport real fast... And prices are very competitive here in the US.

Note, the links below are to a US chain of tyre stores that sells them since last week, they are so new on the market that even Cooper's own web site doesn't yet list them. I don't know if these tyres will eventually be marketed abroad, but I assume so.

18":
Cooper Zeon LTZ 285/60R18

20":
Cooper Zeon LTZ 275/45R20 (This is near stock size, so minimal impact on speedo but less sidewall.)
Cooper Zeon LTZ 285/50R20 (This should also fit, I run a 285/60R18 and height / diameter is virtually identical, but your speedo will be off about 8% from stock.)

We have a slightly more aggressive All Terrain tyre by General Grabber - the AT2 - over here that has good offroad performance and runs quietly onroad - it is available in 18,19 and 20", the tread pattern is similar to a BFG AT which isn't yet available for RRS or FFRR. My experience with BFG AT tyres has been that they wear very slowly - I ran a set on my Defender for 59000 miles and they still had 4mm of tread left - I was able to sell them on to somebody who didn't off-road their Land Rover too! If I could get them for the RRS I wouldn't hestitate to get rid of the Continentals that I'm running at present which are lethal in the mud and snow conditions they are supposed to be good for................... 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Huh. General only has a smallish 18" AT2 (255/55R18) available here in the US, no 19s or 20s (that would fit the Sport, anyway...), you guys are lucky.

I will check with the local guys on Monday, but I'm sure they told me "no problem" last week when I was looking for a set of BFG MTR's when I asked about AT2's for next winter. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

A rr.net member posted pics of his Vesuvius S/C with 20" Coopers, I think they look absolutely stunning on those Stormers and should definitely hold their own offroad (much better than the Conti stockers, for sure), enjoy:

Thanks for all the posts and info

Thanks All

I know there are some 19" off roads in Europe (UK etc) but they are not sold here i the US. The 19" is likely a larger market in europe. 19" wold be ideal as it would be more or less a stock replacement and would maintain the warranty. 18" will work fine on the HSE (but not the SC (bremos)). So I will likely go with 18" would like a little more sidewall but I don't plan on Rock Crawlin on the Rubicon, just looking for good grip on medium level back roads and dirt.

Thanks Again, glad I found this board, lots of good information.

Thommy
