Members Map Feature

First off, a general note - there's no obligation whatsoever to fill this information in. It is purely for interest and to see at a glance the spread of RRS owners around the world. If you don't feel comfortable giving your exact location then do consider using a nearby town or similar to give a 'rough' guide as to where you are Smile

Setting your location on the map

  1. Go to your profile:

  2. Find the members map area:

  3. Either enter your co-ordinates directly into the boxes provided in +/- decimal format (e.g. 3.55721), where Southings and Westings are negative, or click the "Find my co-ordinates" link to use the map to find your location:

  4. A new window will pop up, showing a typical Google Map. Use the zoom/pan control buttons, or click and drag with the mouse to find your location:

  5. Then click on your desired location:

  6. Alternatively, if you are in the UK you can enter your postcode in the text box provided and press the Go button to zap straight to your location.

  7. In either case, a pop-up balloon will open. Click the "Set here as my location" link to close the window and set your profile co-ordinates.

  8. Then scroll down and click the Submit button to save your profile information:

Viewing map locations

There are two main methods of viewing the map: viewing all members, or viewing the distance to a single member.

a. View all members

  1. Click the Members Map link on the toolbar:

  2. You'll be then shown the members map:

  3. You can scroll around to view the map and click the icons to find out where people are:

b. View distance to single member

  1. Click the link under their avatar/joined date & posts information block next to any of their posts. If they do not have a link, then they've not set their location on the map.

  2. Alternatively, click the "Distance from you: xx mi" link on their profile information page:

  3. Both of these will bring up a map like this one, showing you and the other member with a line between you:

  4. You can click the icon for the other member to view their distance from you Smile
