Australia 2006 Range Rover Sport TDV6 SE Chawton White
SAT NAV DVD upgrade (cornered market)

Hey guys - continueing the intrigue and saga of the Map data DVD -
(from previous discussion on Rangerovers.net):
http://rangerovers.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8714

Does the UK or US RR Sports SAT NAV - DENSO (think same hardware as Australian) accept any other brand DVD mapping? Or . . is it a case that Land Rover have applied a locking code and all can only use LR published mapping DVD's?

Is it also true for servicing? I am told only LR PC (software) can access the engine management system for servicing?

Doesnt any one else object to this kind of restrictive marketing? LR can now ask their own price just like in the SAT NAV DVD map. (or does anyone know how to get around this?)

LR is cutting off any competition and cornering the market - doesnt any one else object to this? LR Assist in Oz have told me I have no choice.

I have it on good authority that;
* v10 was $350aud ($300us - 236 eur)
* now v12 is $1600au ($1,222us and 958 eur)!!! and,
* from Sensis "Where Is" (supplier to LR Aust.) v13 is coming out in September 06. (Australia & NZ coverage)

Love to know UK and US upgrade SAT NAV DVD costs?

(Still never grow tired of jumping in the drivers seat though)
Cheers

Not sure I understand why you're upset, Geoff...?

Are you suggesting that car manufacturers should give you the choice of which SatNav system to have built into your car?

Re servicing, why would you not want to take your LR to a LR dealer to be serviced?

Yeah, but you can easily choose to not use IE should you so decide... just go and install Firefox or Netscape if you want to use that instead, but it's a little more difficult with OEM SatNavs in cars.

Latest discs for UK have been appearing on ebay - £10 - £30 approx

Also LR dealers can update any RRS that didn't come with "sat nav input on the move" capabilities - its a daler software upgrade.
